(Closed) Stand-in rings – do get or not to get? Why/why not? I have so many questions!

Not similar at all! I like to wear it camping or by the pool. All 3 on my finger are from Berricle. My real ring is a split shank double halo, diamond. Normally, I wear a plain silver band. These, pictured, are simply fun!

I have on- it’s a plain silver band that cost about 15 bucks. It doesn’t look anything like my regular ring, but I just wanted something cheap to wear. I’ve done a lot of traveling, and there are some places that I felt were just too dangerous to wear my regular ring (I’ve spent a fair amount of time in the 3rd world). My ring is an heirloom though, so I’m less concerned with the actual monetary worth (in USD) than I am the freakout my FMIL would have if I lost it.

I’m in FL so the beach is my friend.   I Have a stand in rose gold plates silver and CZ ring from Ebay that cost $5.  I wear it when were out on the boat or my ring is at the Jewelers, I like having a ring on my finger. My E ring is insured but the value to me is so much more, so I’m just careful and wear a stand in when around the open water.

It’s half the size of my Ering  at .50 so I like when I put mine back on it feels so big lol.

I don’t have one and I wouldn’t get one. A ring that isn’t actually my ering or wedding band wouldn’t have the significance and thus I personally don’t see the point. I’d just wear rings on my other fingers if it felt too weird not to wear one, which I do on my right hand anyway.

I’m thinking about getting a stand-in ring as well. I’m looking into a moissanite or just a plain gold band.

I don’t have any sort of stand-in ring, and never thought about getting one. I always figured I would just travel (or do whatever other activity) with my regular ring. I wear it every day, and don’t always remove it when I’m exercising or cleaning, depending on the exact thing I’m doing. It’s insured, and I love it. I hate taking it off.

The last trip we took, though, DH said he preferred if I left my ring at home. I guess he felt uncomfortable traveling with it for whatever reason. It seemed silly to me, but wasn’t worth arguing about because it seemed really important to him that it stay at home in the safe. So, I wore my original ERing with one of my wedding bands.

In the future, when DH wants me to leave my ring at home, I will probably go back to wearing my original ring … or maybe just wear one of my right hand rings along with my wedding band. I’m so used to having a ring on my left ring finger that I get sudden feelings of panic (like: “No! Did I lose my ring?!?) when I realize it’s naked. Silly, I know …

I definitely use stand-in rings! I actually just bought a new one from evesaddiction.com. I travel for work often and I do not like how rough airport travel (lugging suitcases etc) is on my hands/rings. Additionally, I am honeymooning (in 3 weeks!) across the world and I would be so scared to lose my real beauties. The stand ins are perfect for vacation and travel, IMO.

theshannondee:  Love that ring. That would def be a good everyday option.

I’m planning on getting one, probably will be similar to my ring but who knows.

My ring is insured, but I would still be pretty devastated if I lost it just because of sentimental value. Thats kind of the point of a stand in ring for me…I dont want to wear nothing, but some situations (like camping or going to the beach or whatever) I would be worried about something happening to my actual ring

Ham1320:  Right!? Love it. I sorta cheated since its not cheapy or CZ or whatever, but I would want something that wouldn’t turn green in the pool or cloud up or anything weird.

rittenhousenewbee: I have one from before we bought the real one (which we had already picked out). There are places in the world where it’s better not to have something on you worth $1000+. So, even though I think of my ring as being modest I wouldn’t want something similar, I don’t want it to look valuable.

theshannondee:  I completely agree. My stand-in will either be rose gold or yellow gold. If I go with a stone it will be under 1 carat.

rittenhousenewbee:  My engagement ring is a family heirloom from my fiance’s family & there are places I don’t like to wear it to for fear of losing it but I just don’t wear a ring at all
