@jpbee:  I have a stand in! It is sterling silver and cz, and looks totally different from my original set. I bought it becuase my husband and I are quite outdoorsy, and I was worried about camping and canoeing with my original rings. I also wear it when we travel, just to avoid worrying about losing it or having it damaged or stolen.

Ihave a stand-in rind for work. I was told at training that countless people have lost their rings and never found them so it was beist to either get something cheap or not wear one at all. I went with the cheap route. I didn’t want something that was a replica, so I got a mystic topaz solitare in silver with a silver band.

I like variety.

@jpbee:  Thank you! And I totally agree. If you’re more comfortable with a ring on at all times, especially at the gym and bar, but don’t want to worry about something happening to your original, a standin is an awesome way to go. Check out http://www.berricle.com, they have an amazing selection and they are really good quality.

@jpbee:  I was just wondering where in the UK you are and how long you’ve had your ring.

not long after I first got my ring we went to see Madonna in Hyde Park and I was terrified to wear it but I really really wanted to. In the end I did but I kept checking it was still there and turning the diamond into my palm

now I’ve had my ring over a year and a half I’ve really relaxed. I have a 0.90 carat solitaire and I would be devastated if it got lost or stolen but I can’t bring myself to wear a stand in, I just want my e ring. I just wondered if maybe your ring is still new to you or if you’ve had it ages and still feel the same. I’m always like it with something new though. Like when I get a new mobile I take so much care placing it in my bag and keeping it nice then after a month or two I just chuck it in with my keys. I’m terrible really!  🙂

Smile Sorry I just saw you said you’ve had it a month. I suspect it might be because it’s still shiny and new x

@jpbee:  I have ordered my stand-in, and I am not even engaged yet, lol! I suspect that it will be happening before the end of the year though, and I know I will not want to be without a ring on my finger once I get it, so I got a rhodium dipped sterling silver CZ solitaire from Emitations.  Who knows if it will have to be sent back for some reason, so now I am prepared!

I have a stand in ring for work… I didn’t want my e-ring to get super scratched up or lost because I do sometimes work alot with my hands [anywhere from scrubbing on my hands & knees, to pulling things out of pool filters!].

My real wedding set is pretty much inexpensive and while very dainty, I’m not too worried about it breaking or losing diamonds… It fits my very active lifestyle and I never take it off. If it gets lost someday I’d be upset because this is the ring he gave me on the special day, but we’d move on and get another one that’s not too expensive and be glad we didn’t spend a fortune on something I lost – when we got engaged and then married, we had karate classes several times per week where all jewelry had to come off and there was no lockers in the changing room… I trusted every woman there but you never know… This was part of our decision when buying the rings. Other part was me wanting to travel and save for a house…

All that said, I still have a stand in, it’s my grandmother’s wedding set that I got when she passed. It’s larger than mine so I used it while pregnant when my real set didn’t fit me anymore.

I don’t have an engagement ring yet, but plan to use my rather inexpensive promise ring as a stand in should I ever need one. I do work at a lab, so some days I might want to spare my real rings from chemicals, or traveling I imagine you’d pass trhough places where an expensive or at least shiny ring will make you a target for robberies.
