I think it’s a great idea! I fully plan on doing the same thing when I have my e-ring and wedding band. Who cares if your stand-in set looks cheap, you know it’s not the real thing and it’s just not worth the risk of losing your real rings or having them stolen or damaged.

I have a stand-in e-ring that I wear when we go on vacation where I’ll be swimming in the ocean or something.

I think it’s a great idea! I will most definitely be getting stand ins for SO and I to wear on our honeymoon and vacations. Did you leave the real set at home or just in the hotel room and wore the stand ins when you went out?

I don’t, nor will I purchase them. I thought about it, talked to DH about it, he was not a fan. He said they’re insured and that’s why they’re insured. I do just wear my wedding band when really active, but usually I just wear both. Honeymoon, vacations, pretty much everywhere.

@ChocolateLime:  I just ordered a stand in band and I’ll be ordering a stand in engagement ring and band for my FI, as well. He is happy as long as something is on our fingers, and I’m afraid on sand and sunscreen gunk and someone possibly stealing my actual set on our honeymoon. FI’s ring has my fingerprint engraved into the top of it, and he’s worried about getting stuff stuck in the textured part, so it’s smart all around for us. I think it’s a great idea! Then you can concentrate on having fun, not on whether your rings are okay.

I used a stand in engagement ring, and chose a plain platinum wedding band that I never feel the need to take off (unless I’m lifting weights that will scratch it). I wore the stand in engagement ring while engaged, but if I ever feel uncomfortable wearing my engagement ring, I just wear my wedding band alone. My cousin recently informed me that wearing the wedding band alone was a very modern thing to do.

@ChocolateLime:  Well, DH did say (jokingly I hope) that if I did lose them, we wouldn’t be using the insurance $ to replace them. The next set I would have to buy myself!

I totally understand the stand-in ring idea, I think it’s really smart and a good way to get some extra sparklies!

I don’t currently have a stand in. I wear my rings everywhere we go and if I’m that concerned I’ll just leave them at home – no big deal.   I will get a stand in set if later in my pregnancy I get too swollen for my rings.

Sure, they’re insured for a reason but I’d be devastated if I lost them. They have a lot of sentimental value!  Also, I think your rings are safer on your finger then in a hotel safe. Just my two cents though.

I have a stand in ring set too! The picture on the bottom is the real set and the top picture is the stand in set from Swarovski.

I have a stand-in e-ring for travel and lab work.  I love my e-ring, but I just need something really plan and simple for some occasions.
