Venues here in charleston, sc along with everything else book up really fast...its a huge destination wedding spot...I was hoping for an April 2011 wedding...but since im not engaged yet and it prob wont happen till march or april I think thats not a very realistic date anymore...Le sigh...
I always thought it was crazy how fast the vendors booked out! lol.
Totally agree with you, what a great post!! I also think it's regional, but I am getting calls for 2011 already and this is Louisiana, most folks are quite surprised by it but my clients are usually total and uber planners... I usually say if you have a vendor that you adore, then go ahead and book them, or else you may be left out or they may be booked...
Oh man... I'm not engaged yet, but I'm hoping it's coming in the next few months.... I'm aiming for a June 2011 wedding.... eep!! I was always wary about planning before the ring, but man this is really making rethink that!
The same goes for Atlanta, as well. We've had our venues for months now and at our church, we were able to get the time we wanted (the day filled up not too long after) and when we booked our reception, we were surprised to hear that it was booked pretty consistently through 2011 (and this was last fall!). Another good thing about booking really early (or what isn't apparently early but to us it seems so!) is that when you're looking at vendors, they're a lot more willing to negotiate on prices and working out deposits.
Everyone thought I was silly to start planning so early but as we're all finding out, it's pretty smart! Good luck ladies!!
I think 2010 is a going to be a busy year for weddings in general.
I e-mailed my DJ the other day to see if any of the referrals I sent his way had contacted him and he said not yet but they better soon because he is doing a lot of weddings this year.
Congrats to you all and good luck!
It was like that for me as well - I got engaged in the end of March 2008 and we booked most of vendors within a month for our June 2009 wedding. When we went to the venue and decided to book there, there was only 2 Saturdays in June available. Most vendors, especially venue, photographer and DJ book up to 18-24 months out!
I started booking vendors almost immediately after I got engaged. Everyone thought I was insane because within the first month, I have half of our vendors booked (it was a ton of work though). But, my reasoning was that if I booked early enough when others hadn't booked, not only would I have my choice of dates, but I had more of a bargaining chip since the vendors didn't have anything down in the books yet. Good luck! June is a crazy month for weddings.
Everyone thought I was nuts for getting my vendors picked out and deposits put down early, but the good vendors get scooped up fast. I only have a couple left to book and we are meeting with them in the next couple of months.
I agree with noritake22, all the good vendors are gone fast! We started booking vendors 16 months out to avoid the rush - we were able to negotiate great deals and secure 2009, 2010 pricings for a 2011 wedding date! So my advice is if you found a venue/vendor you like and know you want to use, book it! :) It is a way to save money!
So after reading.. my anxiety level shot up by like 30.
eeeeek!
June 4th 2011 in Sunny San Diego.. NOTHING booked.. although we have a meeting with a venue on the 27th of this month.. HOPEFULLY a deposit is placed on that day and were set.
& I have a friend who has been making me feel "crazy" for starting my plans so early (her wedding is oct 2010)
I've been researching photographers like crazy since we got engaged (Dec 28) and contacted 4 this week - 2 were already booked!! Luckily my favorite is still free and said she'd hold the date until our meeting at least... phew!
We decided on our wedding date because it was the FIRST DAY they had available! It was also the ONLY date they had left for Summer 2011...
Insanity.
This is making me uber nervous! Especially since my parents and I are thinking to stray away from a Disney wedding and doing one somewhere else in the area (we live an hour and a half south of Orlando). We are planning on the second week of June, but goodness! We have NOTHING figured out yet except POSSIBLY the photographer! I can't even figure out where I want to have the wedding since I apparently have no clue how to look up venues! I always come up dry :(.
I wanted plenty of time to plan a wedding because everything books up really quickly and I am really picky. Once we got engaged in November I started really doing my research and a lot of vendors thought I was soooo organized because apparently most people are booking with about 8 months to plan it all - I was so shocked because I assumed most people would want at least a year to coordinate for a wedding.
As it turns out, we've made decisions but a lot of places won't take a deposit until literally 1 year to the date - it's stressing me out like crazy because I am ready to put my deposit down and 100% secure my date and there's nothing I can do at my reception site. My reception site will only book one year prior to the wedding because before that internal events have priority - so I am crossing my fingers that all my date options don't get booked by internal events. I am planning to book my ceremony venue ASAP as it is starting to get booked up - at least they will let us change our date if the reception venue doesn't work on the date we've booked, but regardless WHAT A PAIN!!!!!
June is definetly popular! I booked our site only about a year out but I'm sure that in other places you need to book sooner.
We booked 14 months ahead of time and STILL didn't get our prefered date. I never thought about June being a "wedding month", but apparently I've been living under a rock my whole life as I'm being told that June is THE wedding month. I'd definitely start now if you can.

So apparently June is a popular wedding month... I never thought about it because I never thought about getting married in any other month - I just like June! We got engaged in December, and I had a lot mapped out of what I wanted to do. I figured I would start booking in June of this year... well, when I started asking vendors, they said to book now!!
Our photographer already had 10 dates booked for 2011 as of January 2010. Our venue we met with yesterday had June 4, two on June 11, and June 18 booked! i couldn't really believe it! So, even though we are still looking at venues, we gave her a deposit since it is refundable six months before.
So - if you have money to put deposits down, (ours was only $500 for the venue, $975 for photog/video,) do it! There is usually a refund clause in the contract, (8 months for photog, 6 months for venue,) and you can walk away. But at least find a place so you are not freaking out when everywhere is booked a year from your date!
Good luck :)
