I’m just getting back into it after being a lazy butt (and having some back/shoulder/neck problems).  Since the problems never went away when I stopped lifting, I figured it was time to start back up again!

I’m a fan of the Jillian videos, especially No More Trouble Zones, even though I never lift heavy weights in those.  I figure ANY weight lifting is good for me!

I’m a lifter! I love lifting heavy and being strong! My coach told me the other day that I’m almost up to being able to qualify for an olympic lifting comp!

Good luck!!

@pharmy:  I started lifting at the start of February, so I’m still a beginner….

But it is amazing!  I have gotten so much stronger in just three months!  My arms and shoulders look amazing and I am almost sickly proud of them.  I originally started a year before that with a Jamie Eason program, but fell off the wagon after about a month.  Now I’m doing a Jason Ferruggia one that FI found.

Love lifting!  I just got the courage up to use the smith machine at my gym…and I LOVED it.  I really need to get some better ideas for circuits than what I’ve been doing the last few months (started lifting heavier at the start of the year – am up to 25 lbs in each hand on dumb bells)

I’ve used New Rules, it’s a good program.  Just make sure that you start low on your weights for the squat, either do it without the bar or bar only until you’re 100% sure you have good form.  Watch loads of youtube videos for form as well. 😉

Hubby and I are doing StrongLifts now.  It’s basically a 5×5 with only a handful of basic compound lifts, but really I’m not bodybuilding so I’m not missing curls or other things.  Plus, I jog, cycle, and recently got into geocaching.  If I had to spend 2 hours at the gym lifting, I’d lose out on those things (much rather be outdoors).

I started Powerfit (same as Crossfit) in February and really dedicated myself to it in mid-March. I got three to four times a week and I am starting to feel and see my muscles develop. I love HIT and it really leaves your total body feeling great.

Good luck to you and let us know how you like it!

I did NROWLFW for a few weeks a year ago, I liked it but I didn’t stick with it. I like to do my own thing once a week and do Body Pump 2-3 times a week (in addition to cardio). If you’re one to stick to plans, it would be a great one! I did not follow the diet because I’m already very thin and I’m a runner so I laugh at low carb!

Love lifting! It is indeed how to get amazing arms. Muscles are sexy, and it’s almost impossible for us girls to accidentally look like body builders. I recommend free weights. There are all kinds of programs, but any athlete will tell you to hit the free weights. Google research it if you need to. Good luck!

@pharmy:  Im always excited about women who lift. I’m sorta new to it but its so rewarding. that’s a good book.. I’ve used it. Also check out Nia Shanks’ beautiful badass and shero programs. http://Www.niashanks.com and check out girls gone strong on FB or http://www.girlsgonestrong.com

ETA: I’d also look into hiring a trainer to make sure your form is right. It’s important to start with the right form from the get go instead of having to retrain yourself later or hurting yourself as you increase weight.
