Hi Chzlvr,
I urge you to seek out more independent photographers in your area (I'm not sure where you're located...I know this can be easier if you're in a big city vs. more rural area!). Getting to know your photographer is so important, and larger companies/chains don't always offer that personalized experience! I've heard that Bella and other alike companies just assign you a photographer and they show up on your big day; not nearly as fabulous as getting to know your photographer beforehand to ensure you work well together.
Where are you located? Maybe some fellow brides in your area can chime in with good suggestions for you!
I completely second Miss Stiletto's recommendation!! Indepenent photographers are the way to go these days...
Bella goes after photographers via online forums, mostly.
They work as a networking association, having photographers who are essentially "sub-contracting" for them.
If you're not familiar with this term, it basically means that Bella is the organization who finds the client, and then references a photographer who they have a relationship with to shoot your wedding. They schedule the arrangements with the photographer and then confirm with you.
This method eliminates the contact with you prior to the event (or greatly reduces it) and is how they stay in business. If they gave you contact information for the independent photographer who they use, there is a chance that you as a customer could choose to just go directly to the photographer and not use Bella, negotiating your own price and package.
For this reason, I'd suggest finding someone on your own. It may take more work, but for such an important day, it's not worth being in the dark about it.
Good Luck!
Definitely look for independent photogs. Not only do you get a more personalized touch, you also can potentially build a great network!
Where are you located? Our photog is fabulous and a joy to work with - would be happy to forward her price list! She has studios in NJ and FL, but is also willing to travel! PM me if you want more info - the website is www.impress-photo.com
I found my photographer via the WPJA webiste. It's geared towards a more photojournalistic style, though, so if you aren't looking for that then it probably wouldn't help you much.
i wouldnt go for Bella...how can you not know your photographer? this is once in a lifetime event (hopefully)....and pictures is one of few ways you will remember it by.... go for someone you can meet and get to know\

Anyone familiar with Bella Pictures? Photography and/or videography services? I see they got great reviews on weddingwire but any additional personal experience would be helpful in my search...I'm also curious about their approach to assign a photographer to you a few months prior to your wedding day...
