COLUMBIA, SC (WIS) –
In the days following the 2012 General Election, citizens from several northern and southern states, including South Carolina, have openly petitioned the White House to secede from the United States.
In fact, at least two petitions from South Carolina have appeared on the White House petition website at petitions.whitehouse.gov.
Boasting close to 9,000 total signatures thus far on both petitions, the petitioners are asking for a peaceful severance from the Union in order give the state the ability to form its own government as a sovereign state.
As mentioned earlier, South Carolina is not the only state to petition in the last six days. Former members of the Confederate States, such as Louisiana, Alabama, and Mississippi have also asked for secession.
The petitions still need 25,000 signatures each by Dec. 10, 2012 in order to be considered by the White House.
What do you guys think of this???

SO and I have talked about moving to one of these states- preferably Texas for the heat…. I’ll keep my thoughts at that

@BoiledPNut: There were more signatures on a British petition to make Jeremy Clarkson prime minister… I wouldn’t put much weight in either.

It’s not states that are petitioning. It’s people from several different states. That’s different than the state government trying to secede. Anyone can make a petition.
Anyway, I’m sure this will die just like every other completely ridiculous petition out there.

@SpecialSundae: I definitely don’t think it’ll actually happen. I think it’s a bit ridiculous myself.

Stupid is as stupid does.

It’s a silly reason to secede, but I’m not sure that keeping the USA and the EU amalgamated are good things. I feel like the govs are too centralized and no one’s happy and no one can move forward. Something done right for a bad reason might still have a good outcome.

They can try… we saw how well it went the first time :-). I personally would love Northern VA to join DC and let the southern chunk of the state fend for itself. That would cause them to stop whining about us darn democracts shifting their state blue. I think they’d really miss our tax revenue!

that is crazy. but not unheard of or likely in

I don’t like you. I’m going to take my toys and go home!!!! stomps feet. Leaves playdate.
Whiny pouty sore-loser babies. Whatever.
No wonder we can’t get our nation straight. people are spending time on this kind of bull-shit instead of getting involved or trying to make an actual difference.
