I'm not sure what the file looks like - if you can, you might want to make a jpg of it and post it. If you just want a basic postcard stock, you probably want what's called 10 point card stock. You could go up to 12 point, but 10 is the usual. Unless you want a special texture, then you probably just want a matte finish (unless you want glossy) and vellum is more of a thin, paperstock so it doesn't sound like you need that.
One important thing - do your STDs have color going all the way up to the edge of the card? If so, you need to add 1/8 of inch extra in that color to the border in the file (it's called adding a bleed), otherwise, when they cut the cards, you may end up with uneven white borders.
Hope that helps!

So, I just got done shipping off my file to vistaprint- in hopefully 7 days, I'll have my postcard STD's (with a blank back). The plan is to stick them to 5X7 card stock squares and then thread ribbon around and tie a knot in the middle (right underneath the phrase 'are tying the knot' and above the date/city information).
It took me FOREVER to create my own design as I'm techie challenged (it'll be interesting to see how it turned out on postcards... ahem). Add craft-challenged to that list as well. Having said that, what kind of cardstock should I use? I see peeps talk about weights and vellum and texture and...
#$%$&$^*&^(!@$%@#%????
Help and suggestions are appreciated! Thanks so much!
