I think it’s fine and a lot of people do it!  I decided to print mine on 4×6’s and send them in envelopes instead so they didn’t get ruined (corners crushed etc.) and so that randoms couldn’t see us and when our wedding would be.

Postcards are great!  We sent out a combination New Year/STD postcard.  Go for it!

We did postcards and they turned out fine.  No one said their cards were destroyed and ours didn’t have the location, just the city and date on it.

We sent postcards for our STD’s and everyone raved about how cool they were!

@Tracyg123: Did you end up going with envelopes? I’m trying to decide this right now too. I didn’t think about the info being available to everyone. But redhead is right – just the date and city would be okay. I’m a little worried about them being lost in mail too, or getting thrown out. But…postcards would just be easier and cheaper!

I think all tradition has been thrown out the window.  People are coming up with all kinds of different ways to aproach wedding details. Formal or not, if you like it and are okay go with it.  Basically this wedding is all about you.  Go for it.

Here were our DIY STD postcards.  I had them printed at overnightprints.com as 5x7s on 16pt cardstock with rounded edges.  They arrived in pristine shape (without envelopes) to everyone, so I highly recommend!!!

I was wary of doing postcard Save-The-Date Cards, but we went for it and I LOVE what we sent out.

With rounded corners, hand-canceling and a clear sleeve (warning: not ALL USPS branches will let you use a sleeve!), they were FAB. My qualms about sending something envelope-less were dashed.
