FI and I are torn about STD postcards. We like them because they're so much cheaper than ordering and mailing magnets. However, we've got a password protected website and aren't sure about putting all that information out in the mail. I guess I've heard too many urban legend-type stories about people stealing a couple's information by visiting an unprotected site!
Any thoughts on this? For those of you that did magnets from a site like Vistaprint, did you have to put any extra postage on the envelope? Did you just stick the magnet in there without an extra note?
We made magnet save-the-dates, although we printed them ourselves with magnet paper. We actually mounted the magnet on a piece of cardstock with a single glue dot (so it would pull off easily), and then mounted some additional information on the other side of the cardstock. So, when guests pulled the magnet off, they could turn the cardstock over, and tack the whole shebang to their fridge. As far as postage, it didn't cost us any extra to send them (they went into standard letter envelopes).
Hmm, you raise a good point. We were going to do STD postcards as well...but I hadn't thought about the privacy aspect of it. Sorry I can't actually provide any advice, but I'm anxious to hear what others have to say...
our site wasn't protected and I don't think that cause any problems. I wouldn't worry about the postcard - unless you have a crooked mailman, you should be ok.
I think the bigger problem is if it gets delivered to the wrong address somehow. If you're really worried about it (for good reason, too), I would put it in an envelope. Like smkarl, we also mounted a magnet on a really thick #10 card (letterpressed), and it cost 58 cents to mail.
I had this same issue so what i did was on one side of the postcard was a cute little design and the other side i took some inspiration from Martha and put a little envelope on it and in the envelope was our website address and password. Here is the little envelope inspiration link Postcard STD.
I didnt have any issue with it. I used my Xyron to make the back of the envelope sticky (a permanet sticker) and made sure to press down really hard. I also made the card that went into the envelope a magnet with laminate over the top using my Xyron as well so than people can have something to stick on their fridge. It did make the postage regular postage but for me having piece of mind that only my guest would be getting my website password was worth it.
