I ordered mine a few weeks ago and was thinking about sending them right about the same time as you--after new years. That's almost 9 months in advance and I think it should be plenty of time.
WOW! I'm glad I'm not the only one thinking of January... I personally thought it was early, but for the same reasons, new calendar, new year, etc, it seemed to be the best choice.
We're getting married on a holiday weekend, which is why I went for 9 months out instead of 6-8, but I figured that it'll give them a break in their 'winter blues' that we get up here in Canada.
I can't decide if I want to send out STDs.. We have a very long engagement, over 2 years.. So everyone close to us knows we're getting married on 9-10-11. I'm thinking maybe I should send them though so people take it more serious that is it actually going to happen!
We are planning on sending ours out on September 10, 2010, which is exactly 1 year til the wedding. I know it's really early, but we are having a destination wedding across the country, and we would like to give people as much time as possible to make travel arrangements, save money, etc. But, I do think January is a really good time to send them out.
We're planning on sending them in the fall for a 9/17/11 wedding. My fiance wants to do them ASAP, by a year in advance but we haven't ordered or gotten addresses or anything, so it'll probably be October/November which is still WAY ahead of time.
Since most of our guests are travelling cross-country to come (some have already requested week-plus vacations from work!), we figure the more time the better.
Getting married on 9/24/11 and save the dates are ordered and were waiting for them to arrive. We live in FL and 95% of our guests are from out of state and some from the caribbean. We want to send them out 1 year in advance because wer want everyone possible to attend. Were also spreading the date around my word of mouth.
I sent mine out 9 months before my wedding. I think I did it the first week of January. We, too, were having a wedding across the country from most people, so that gave plenty of time to save, make plans, etc. 4 weeks to go for me! Good luck, ladies!
I'm planning to send mine out in March 2011 BUT I'm launching our website in November so people will already know the date and will be able to plan ahead.
i launched my website and sent it to major relative (moms and grandmas) and we are sending our save the dates on our anniversary in february
I think we're doing January as well. It seems like a good time for people to put the date on their calendars.
January sounds like the best idea because of hte new calendars... probably SHOULD do them earlier since most of our family will be traveling but I dont care
I was also thinking about sending them out in Jan. Most of our guest are going to be out of towners. I am still trying to decide if i want to make them myself or order them.
We notified our families via email and phone about the specific date (Thursday Sept 1). I also launched our wedding website/blog in August 2010. Family and most friends will have known the date for a year.
We are sending the formal STD's after Valentine's Day (6 months out).
Invitations will hit the mail 8 weeks prior to the date and
I'm asking them to RSVP by 5 weeks prior.
I just made up this schedule tonight so someone tell me if I'm walking into a bad planning process!!!!
We sent out our save the dates at the beginning of October. My fiance's entire family lives in another state and I wanted to give them as much time as possible to save and plan for the trip!

We are sending our save the dates out in January. I feel behind! We did not want them to mix in with all of the holiday mail. I have been sharing the date with out of state family hoping they have plenty of time to make travel arrangements.
We were planning on sending them in November, but due to a mail mishap, we've put it off until January. I think that it'll still be plenty of time for our friends and family to coordinate their schedule.

Have you September 2011 brides started planning on when you're sending out STD's? I was thinking I would send them in January because it's after the new year and people have their new calendars. But I'm getting married on a Tuesday, so maybe I should send them earlier than that? What do you think?
