I don't think it's "Loco" ...you can and should personalize your ceremony and make it represent your tastes. For your processional (that's the "walk down the aisle") A mariachi band is usually pretty boisterous and loud music that tends to inspire a lot of rhythm and dancing. While steel drums are a little bit more low key/background type music. I think you just need to decide what kind of feel you want for YOUR processional.
I would try to Youtube some ideas. I'm sure there are tons on there!
I shot one where they did Steel Drums. It was supposed to be on the beach but weather forced it inside. it still worked for the ballroom.
My coordinator did a steel drum event that she swears was awesome. Even did the bridal march in steel drums.
I would love to incorporate them somehow and I think if we used them for the ceremony and then for our cocktail hour they would be perfect. We are not, however, having a beach wedding. We are actually getting married in a NYC loft! Probably having the ceremony outside though. I wanted a beach wedding, but we decided to keep it at home, so I want to incorporate something beachy to it!
I vote for the Mariachi band. I LOVE them personally, and actually just suggested it to FH the other day!
we had steel drums w/ a little band and they were SO GOOD. more of a background thing until cocktail hour, where they really jammed out. I'd recommend that, our guests loved it.
@melissabegins-was it expensive? We are going to have a DJ for the reception, so we would just use them for the ceremony and cocktail hour....I havent budgeted for them, so I would have to move some stuff around! hahaha

We arent doing anything super traditional and we will not be getting married in a church, so I am not quite sure I want to use an organ, piano, strings for my "aisle walk". (cant remember what that is called! hahaha). Have you guys ever been to a wedding where they used something untraditional? I love steel drums and my FI works with all of Latin America and studied in Argentina a few times so I was thinking a mariachi band could be cute. Does this sound 'loco"????????
