I have a question about the “father” section of marriage license application.
My parents divorced when I was a baby so my mother raised me on her own. I don’t know my biological father other than his name and few trivial info. When I was in college, she remarried to a wonderful man I consider as my real father. My stepfather has been more of a father to me than anyone else.
Is it alright to list my stepfather as my father on the marriage license application?

I am not a lawyer, so maybe someone will correct me if I am wrong. I would list whoever is “legally” your father. If you stepfather adopted you, then I would list him. Otherwise, I would list your biological father. I would guess that they really don’t care who you have a better relationship with, that it’s more to verify who you are (ex. compared to your birth certificate).

This is a matter of who your legal father is/was. Unless you have been legaly adopted it’s your biological parent.

Yeah…I had a feeling that’s the case…
I’ve submitted the online application just now and will be going to the location in few hours.
Thanx for your advices!

just ask at the clerk’s office. I bet they get all sorts of crazy questions regarding parents, lost parents, no parents etc!
