I saw a design of a wedding band on Etsy I really like. It's totally unique, custom and personalized. The only issue is it is sterling silver. I don't know much about sterling silver...I just tend to think costume jewelry when I think sterling silver??

Has anyone have a sterling silver ring that hasn't tarnished after years and years of wear? Seems to me that's what happens to all the sterling silver rings I've had.

For our wedding band I would prefer something that won't tarnish over the years like platinum or titanium. But I think in this design that I want it will probably be $$$$$$.

    Thoughts?

Hiya - I used to work in Jewellery.  Sterling silver is a good every day option as it is quite hardwearing, however it does discolour with the oxides in the air around us.  If you are having sterling silver you will need to clean it regularly and polish it with silver polish and a silver cloth.  Also although it is quite hardwearing it will scratch just like any other metal, so you may want to consider having it buffed every few years to keep it shiny.

Lastly, be careful if you have a gold/white gold engagement band - silver is a tougher metal and so can erode other metals worn with it.

Hope this helps and good luck!x

I have two vintage sterling rings. They cleaned up very well and have a beautiful lustre, but I noticed that they get scratched far more easily than my gold jewelry. If you're willing to address the cleaning and scratching issues, it's definitely an option. :)
