- Wedding: August 2010
We got our engagement ring from Steve Quick and really liked the initial meeting. Until we got charged more then our budget (she promised to stay within our budget but didn’t include the $500 sales tax). Then they said they couldn’t ship the ring to us until it was insured. I gave them all our insurance info to send the appraisal to in September and our ring was shipped the next day. I got engaged in December. In January the ring insurance wasn’t on my rental insurance bill so I called and they said they never recieved the appraisal (I lost my ring in the cushion of our car for 3 hours prior to this so was freaking out).
We went there for our wedding band and since I couldn’t afford the ring I really wanted there they said they would replicate it without the diamonds. They said when making the ring they had to split one band into two since the ring was so thin. So I would have to purchase TWO rings. I told them I didn’t need to rings, just one, and asked if they could sell the other in store. So my $560 set of two rings was now $360 for one. Fine. Went in to pick it up and the ring wasn’t made to the specifications that I ordered it (was made under 1mm and the milgrain took up the entire band like the side of a dingy dime), and said they never wrote down how wide I wanted it so it was their fault. I asked if I could get my deposit back and they said I could get a store credit. They said they would make another at 1.8mm and it would only cost me $210 (why the price difference now? For a bigger ring?) I said if I decided to go a different direction if I could get it back, and they said we’d work something out. I emailed them the next day and said I didn’t want them to try and make another ring for me and decided to go another direction.
It took a week until they finally told me I couldn’t get my deposit back. On a ring they made incorrectly. After all their mistakes they wanted me to trust them AGAIN and get the ring a week before my wedding and hope it turns out okay. I told them no. Fought with them on the phone for 20 minutes until she rudely said “fine if you want your money back then you can have it back”. That’s all I wanted! The deposit was down for one ring, and they made a totally different ring.
They are nice until they get your money, then they treat you pretty crappy. They weren’t very helpful with our wedding band in finding something that made me happy (a 1.5mm wide 14k plain gold band…is it that hard to do???). I ended up going to a Helzberg and got a ring prettier to the custom one I wanted with diamonds for $200. And it has a lifetime guarantee.
Sorry for the long rant and confusing detail. Just reallllly frustrated with them and would not wish them on my worst enemy, especially for something as special as a wedding ring.
