My fingers are crossed for you! My fiance has never even met my family, so I totally understand your desire to have him spend a big chunk of time with your crew :) Good luck!!
Keep heart, I'm sure it will come through in time and you guys will have a great holiday together. Sending good vibes your way!
!!! I Didn't see this post til RIGHT NOW! That really, really stinks and he really, really needs to push hard for them to get it done. Honestly, it's ridiculous he hasn't gotten it yet if other people have gotten theirs. I'd be a mean, mean person at this point! Love you! I know it will work out!
Okay, ask him to call his senator. Seriously. Or you call, and cry. Those people can get a ton done.
I'm with daydream on this!!! Get whomever you need involved asap. I have, on occasion, used tears to move an impossible situation forward, and when you really do sound desperate, they will get it done. Sending happy thoughts and hopes you way :)
er, maybe Senator isn't the right one; try a congressman first. Hehe... mis spoke myself.
It is possible for them to make a passport in a few hours. I'm pretty sure that, when it is less than 7 days, they will be able to bump you up into a fast-track and get it out to him ASAP. If you want to be ABSOLUTELY sure you might also make an appointment to go in person to your local passport office (which might, sadly, not be very local). I think you can make these two weeks in advance - they will certainly only process your paperwork there if you are travelling within two weeks. This would involve an expediting fee, but they would make the passport for pickup later that day or the next day. You would need to submit another application there, and have the original supporting documents. You should also ask them how to make sure that he doesn't get issued two passports!
To sum up: it's a pain in the butt, and expensive, but he can totally get a passport still.
this happened to me when I was leaving to study abroad- 3 weeks to go and no passport. my mom called our senator and when she did that they sent it the NEXT DAY (!!). so i'd recommend that for sure! usually you just talk to the senators secretary or something. worked like a charm.
@DD: "or you call, and cry" lol that's funny!
He did go to the local office, which was useless! We did find a link online saying they will expidite it if you have a travel date planned within 2 weeks. He's been in Grand Jury all day, so today is a wash. He's going to call tomorrow & hopefully I'll have good news to share tomorrow :)
I hope he can get it soon! Keep bothering people until something gets done!
Hi there. I can see why you are so worried. From your post I'm not sure if you are saying that your fiance needs a US or Canadian passport but I do know that you can get a US passport in just a few days if you use a passport expediting service. i know 2 people who have used rushmypassport.com. there is an extra fee but well worth it. They can't help expedite the current application but he can submit a new one with them if he has all the paperwork needed. I think there is a similar type of servcie in canada but you would have to check on that.
RB, seriously, have him call someone from his local branch of the government. It will get done. Immediately.
You know how I work for a company that has offices all over the world? Well my job used to be securing visas for people, and I had to deal with passport issues all the time. We regularly called local senators and congressmen and had them get passports in time for us so we could get visas (which have a time frame of their own). I mean it, make him call today.
I agree--call and check! maybe something happened to it or maybe they can expedite it! Mine only took a few weeks to get =(
Thanks DD! We will totally exhaust that option for my K-1 Visa. Today he FINALLY got a confirmation email saying it's been processed & "has been mailed to you". Now this kind of sucks. It's been mailed, so we can't get his passport rushed to him. However, it could be there today or tomorrow. Sigh. If I'm going crazy over HIS passport, how will I ever deal with the stress of immigration?
Insert sad face. Thanks for all your suggestions & help ladies :)
When I was having trouble getting my passport, and after spending HOURS on the phone with the passport office trying to talk to someone, I called my local congressman. They were able to expedite it, and I got it a week later.
Did they give you a tracking number for the passport envelope? I love and hate those at the same time... I'll sit there and hit refresh like it's a chat thread (haha!), only, nothing happens.
Ugh, that's horrible! I will keep my fingers crossed for you that it arrives in time. My FI just applied to renew his passport on Thursday and it's been expedited as he will be flying out in ten days. If all goes as planned, it should be in his hands by Tuesday...
Good old US Post... it's the busiest time of the year for them! We're still waiting. And waiting. And fighting- we're both just stressed out. Yesterday was really hard because he was supposed to arrive last night. :(
We're hoping it will arrive this week & then he'll book his flight for the 23rd! *fingers crossed*
I totally feel your pain.
I had the UPS lose my passport in March. It was inside of the mail carriers' jeep. I was also freaking out.
DO call them and talk to them. They will help.
gees, I'm glad he doesn't need a visa to go see you... you guys would never make it!
Have your guy talk with the postal carrier. Have him tell him that he's expecting the package and he'd appreciate it if he could keep an eye out for it. Heck, have him fix him coffee or buy him a sandwich or something as a "bribe" if you have to! Sometimes it's that bit of personal interaction that ensures that you get what you need when you need it!
He FINALLY got it!
Thanks for keeping me sane ladies! He's booking his flight tomorrow :) Now I can get excited about the holidays instead of continuing to mope around like a zombie... lol
EEEEEEEEE!!! SO SORRY I MISSED THIS!! but i'm sooo glad that he got it and can book his flight and spend time with the fam!! i breathed a huge sigh of relief for you!!
Good!!!! I'm glad you guys can spend the holidays together!!!!
YAY! I post stalked when you said you had posted it. That's so, so exciting! Can't wait to see your present

So my FI has been waiting and waiting and WAITING for his passport. People who sent their passport applications in AFTER him have already gotten theirs and they didn't use the fast track service either. He talked to the passport office & checked online and the only answer he ever gets is "It's processing". They said they can't help him until there are less than 7 days before the travel date.
He is stressed. I am stressed. I'm also a little numb. This is my last Christmas in Canada & the first time he can actually spend a good amount of time with my family. We've been together for almost 4 years, yet he's only been here three times. I've been to his city a little over 30 times. I'm basically a member of his family... his sisters & parents are like my family, but unfortunately my family barely knows him.
I really wanted him to get to spend these few weeks with my family & now I'm thinking it's not going to happen. He's going to miss Christmas and it kills me... I'm so sad.
Just please send good juju my way! Thanks ladies :)
