I am a bit nervous that it has been over a month after the wedding and I still haven’t gotten my photos. I contacted the photographer and he said it’s because they sent the DVDs to an outside company to have them pressed so that they last longer. I wasn’t too nervous until this morning when I got an email that said my credit card had been charged the final payment. When I signed the contract in Feb. 2012, it said the final payment is due on January 2013 (appro. 6 months post wedding). This has all of the makings of a scam. I hope that it isn’t. I will keep you guys updated.

Hm, I’m not sure what to tell you about that. I think you need to contact your photographer.
4 weeks isn’t too long. My contract for my clients is 6-8 weeks, and larger weddings are usually closer to the 8 week mark. I do put up a preview for them within a week or two, but the full gallery is usually 8 weeks.
As for payment, that is strange. I require my balances to paid paid in full 15 days PIRIOR to the wedding, so I just can’t fathom why a photographer wouldn’t charge you until 6 months later.
I’ve never heard about sending disks off to get pressed for longevity. I burn all my own client disks in house. Perhaps he was referencing to sending the *images* away for editing? Many photographers outsource their initial edits.

What does the contract say with regards to when you will receive the photos/dvd?
My photographer required full payment two days before the wedding, and my photos won’t be ready until end of September(ish) – wedding was June 16.

@leembee: The contract didn’t say anything which is why I was worried. BUT they came yesterday and I am so excited. I love them
