Is it possible to skip your period? (keep taking active pills) otherwise I would change it up a bit more than your OB said so you schedule it either a couple weeks before or after your HM so you don't have to deal with it at all during the wedding/hm. That's what I did and it worked really well.
If it were me i would just continue taking the pills im used to and just skip the sugar pills and start on a new pack when the times comes - you wont get your period and it's not horrible to do every once in a while. I did this for my honeymoon.
I've never heard of someone stopping and starting again to shift the schedule.
I've always been recommended to just skip the sugar pills and start the next pack of active pills instead.
I've done it where ive either kept going and not skipped a week off for my period which has worked.
Or... once when i was going away for 2 weeks in the summer and didnt want my period, a few months before I did 2 weeks on, 1 week off, then 2 weeks on, 1 week off and then back to normal to shift it and that worked fine as well.
@gaucho25: do you have issues with spotting at all? I'm thinking more about my answer since you said you're normally very heavy, and I'm thinking that if that's the first time you try to 'skip' and just take the active pills longer, you might end up spotting a lot, since that's fairly common anyway if you are new to 'extending'.
I think your best bet is to shift your schedule so that you go off the active pills about 10 days before wedding/honeymoon (depending on how long of a timespan that's all happening in) so that you aren't due again until a couple weeks after your HM.
Some BC let's you skip a period just by continuing to take pills instead of stopping for a week. I've done that a few times for special occasions. I'm not sure if you can do that with Yaz though?
I would seriously worry about not taking your pills, unless you really want a baby. Just skip the white pills and either take them the next week or just throw them away. I have done it for vacations, ect and I take YAZ. Never had a problem, not even spotting.
If your on bc theres no medical need to have a period so its perfectly fine to skip it.
I tried something like this once to avoid my period during a vacation to
Hawaii...I spotted for 3 weeks, through the whole trip and then afterwards as well. Total FAIL lol.
I ran into the same issue with a cruise last year. I just kept taking the active pills for the week and then finished that pack before getting back to normal. I had no problems with it. My mom worked for a GYN for most of her career and she said they used to tell patients it was fine to do that (although this is before Yaz was out).
@AirForceWife78: yup. been there done that! that's why I'm advocating for taking a break pre-hm. Just in case her body is not happy with going a longer time. No one wants to spend their HM spotting! No fun!
Everyone is different, but what worked well for me was skipping just 1-2 placebo pills per month so that after 5-6 months, your period will arrive 10-12 days earlier than it otherwise would. Personally, my body gets out of whack and I get spotting pretty easily if I deviate from normal BC use, but this method was "gentle" enough for me.
i have always just skipped the placebo's to skip my period and had no issues. just go into the next pack
You don't need to stop & restart! You can just start the next pack without taking the placebos/waiting the week. : )
ETA: Either way (stopping & restarting or starting the next pack) you might spot. The thing I would be worried about would be getting pregnant in those two weeks you're off the Pill (and when you restart...who knows what your body will think!).
Listen to your doctor, she's right. I did it for the first time for a vacation to Mexico this past fall and it was no trouble at all. No spotting, even.
@gaucho25: Yes, I did it for a vacation a year or so ago. It worked fine, as soon as I got home I stopped taking them and my period came in a few days. Its harmless, I was taking Yaz.

Hi bees
My fiance and I were looking at honeymoon trips last night and then I realized that I am going to have my period during the first week of our honeymoon. As luck would have it, I had a gyno appointment today and she suggested stopping birth control pills (Yaz) for 2 weeks and then restarting to schedule my period on the tail end or right after our honeymoon. Has anyone done this before? My wedding is not until the end of July, but worried about the effects. Weird mood swings, acne, skin flare ups, etc? Just getting opinions to see if it is even worth it or just to suck it up and go on the honeymoon with a period. I often have bad cramps, heavy periods, and just general not fun periods, but have also had skin issues when I started birth control pills.
