I’m going ot start charting as soon as I stop BC in a few weeks so that I can figure out my cycles and make sure I’m ovulating. I’ve starting watching the videos on Fertility Friend and know that temping as soon as you wake up and at the same time each day is really important.
Here’s my dilemna – I’m a strange sleeper. I set an alarm every day, but it never goes off. I mean never. Like it’s gone off twice in the 3+ years I’ve been with FI. I apparenlty have a great internal clock and ALWAYS wake up before my alarm.
IE: Alarm is set for 5:45. I wake up at 5:30 or so and just lay there until I have to get out of bed. But it’s not always 5:30. Sometimes, it’s 5:25 or 5:42.
So when do I temp? When I wake up, 5:30 or whenever, even though it isn’t the exact same time every day? Or do I temp just before I actually get out of bed even though I’ve been dozing for a while before I actually move?
Or is temping just not going to work for me since I am not an alarm person?

Temp the moment you wake up (5:30). The more you doze the higher/less accurate your temp will be. The fact that you don’t use an alarm isn’t a big deal. I often wake up a bit before mine.

i am the same way. my alarm goes off at 7, but i’ve been awake and snuggling in my warm blankies for 20 minutes by then. i did find my temp would be raised if i was awake before my brain woke up enough to get the thermometer.
so i temp at 4. i have two alarms… one for temping (then i fall back asleep) and one for actually waking up.

@rosworms: I would do that, but I’m such a freak/worrywart that I would worry that I’d miss the alarm or that it would wake FI up, or or or, and I’d wake up before the 4am alarm too 🙂
@MrsRugbee: so not being at the EXACT same time each day is ok, as long as it’s as soon as I wake up?

@Glasgowbound: For most people that should work. Try out one cycle and see if you get a readable chart. You have to make sure you’re not sleeping though. I let myself sleep my first cycle charting and got temps ALL over the place. I now set 2 alarms like @rosworms: does.

I don’t ever temp at the same time of day. I work shifts and don’t always sleep all that great (only 5 hours of sleep last night for instance). What has worked well for me is to just temp first thing when I wake up as long as it’s been at least 3 hours of solid sleep. I get clear ovulation patterns regardless. 🙂
