bendover rows, bicep curls, shoulder presses, push ups (ugh i know we all hate them), and planks were pretty standard.
wear tank tops instead of t-shirts for one. When you get home, shower IMMEDIATELY and use an acne-controlling wash with salycic acid. Also, wash your body AFTER you rinse off conditioner. conditioner is greasy and will settle on your back/shoulders and clog them.
If all else fails, makeup. My sports bra gave me two HUGE cystic zits on my back (the big ugly kind that never surfaced all the way) and i didn't discover them until i put my dress on! Yikes, nasty surprise. A bridesmaid put foundation on, blended it in, and nobody ever knew
30 day shred to tone up the arms, making great progress doing it 4-5 times per week. I've never had arm muscles before now, and I love them! No problems with shoulder/back blemishes, just the face. Wearing tube tops out in the sun when I work in the yard so I don't get tan lines.
Im a boxer, so thats what I did! Grab 3lb weights and shadow box in a mirror with them for 3 minute rounds, resting one minute in between. 3lbs doenst sound like a lot, your arms will get exhausted, trust me. If it is easy, move up to 5lbs. I only use 5s and 7s, and I box semi-pro. Dont push it too much. Also, like ejs said, all of those things and pullups. OOH and Yoga/Pilates
If you have some body acne, try using bodyclear body was, and using Lac Hydrin lotion every day. You cna get it at most pharmacies behind the counter (you have to ask for it typically, because of the high Lactic Acid percentage.)
In addition to the pull ups, push ups, shoulder presses and bicep curls I also do a chest press with free weights. I do this three times a week, plus I take two contemporary dance classes each week which also helps the back and arms, but not in a targeted kind of way. I've never had any issues with blemishes on my back, but as a safety, I know that the guy doing my makeup is a wiz with bruises, etc. So I won't have to worry about that!
I used Neutrogena Body Clear Body Wash to clear up some body acne. I had some bacne that was pretty bad. I second ejs's conditioner recomendation! I never realized how greasy the conditioner was leaving my skin until I started to wash it off!
excellent suggestion with the conditioner, and neutrogena body wash. of course, not a single pimple on my whole face, but my shoulders/back is where they seem to pop up. i'm going to have to google the skull crushers, cable pushdowns, etc for some instructions (lol) but i can defonitely step up the pushups and free weights! thanks!
i've done skull crushes and cable pushdowns...for a woman's body, I think you probably don't need more than 4 or 5 upper body exercises. Cable pushdowns work a lot of forcep mucles--which isn't really a concern of yours. And skull crushes (okay the way i was taught) do a lot of tricep work.
If you want to do get leaner muscles, you'll DEFINITELY want to start in on some pilates like KellyV suggested. I totally forgot about that. I used to be an athlete and pro-weights all the way. Then i switched to lighter weights, higher reps, and lots of pilates before the wedding and it drastically shifted how my body built up muscle.
I'm seconding/thirding yoga & Pilates. You can't beat them for lean muscles, plus it does wonders for your mental sanity (who doesn't need that right now eh?). I also do (er, will do - I've been lazy all summer) kickboxing at my local gym, and it's a total-body-workout-from-hell. I'd recommend it to anyone looking to slim &/or tone.
For the zitty shoulders, which I'm currently suffering from, I don't know, or I wouldn't be currently suffering from it! I'm planning on calling a dermatologist. I use the Clear Body stuff from Neutrogena and it hasn't worked for me yet. :(
Regular workouts and extra push ups to get some extra tone :)
I agree with using a great body wash AFTER conditioner!
What I consistently do for my arms are bicep curls, side lifts, shoulder presses and a version of tricep kickbacks. Anything with free weights. I throw in a couple of other exercises now and then just when I get bored or have more time. The shoulders are definitely key for me though - I want my back to look great since a lot of people will be staring at it!

this really falls into beauty/fitness but i'm curious what you all are doing to prepare your uppper body for a strapless dress? any excercises, blemish control ideas to prevent us from having jiggly arms and zitty shoulders? :)
