One of my girlfriends is close to getting engaged and thinking about dresses – I am dying to go dress shopping with her, I miss having my own wedding to plan for, ha.
She is thinking of getting married in Hawaii in the spring. She has a grogeous figure ( she is a personal trainer) and was thinking of a dress which would be silky, figure flattering, and with an open or low back – but she likes strapless, she doesn’t like any of the open lace back dresses with illusion necklines or sleeves. The fabric she wants also seems to make it hard to find a lower back dress, as it may lack support in front and its hard to put a lot of boning with a delicate lightweight material!
Any suggestions? Pictures are welcome, I would love to give her some inspiration (and to fufill my own need for more dress porn too haha).

She should try Elizabeth Fillmore or Nicole Miller dresses. They both have flowy low-back styles. I’d be surprised if you could find strapless and low back in a silky fabric. They just have no support.

Amy Michelson has quite a few slinky little numbers.

what about a lighter satin, like charmeuse? my dress is strapless with low back, slim a line shape in a light charmeuse satin, because I’m getting married in hot weather! It is corseted, but then I would expect most strapless gowns are?

Have you checked out Claire Pettibone? A lot of her dresses are low-backed, in a light fabric. They’re not usually strapless though, because low backs make it tricky support-wise.

I don’t have photos of me in it, but here’s a link to my dress…http://www.sinceritybridal.com/wedding_dress/3757
its much more fit and flar on me cos I am short and have hips, but it your friend is slim it will prob look more similar to the model photo…there’s a lot of gowns about in this fabric once you start to look, I tried on quite a few as I needed the lightweight material cos of the climate here! I also tried one on similar to the one below…
cant remember if this is low back tho?

Low back, fitted, and strapless don’t really coincide structurally. The solution is getting what they call a “wishbone” which is a rigid steel “v” that frames the backless sides. It provides tension for a fitted front without requiring straps.
