@orchidaloha:  When I had strep throat I sucked on a lot of icecubes, I would let them slip to the back of my throat and I had at least 1 mcflurry every day to try and get the pain away. I also drank a lot of milk as it was creamy and helped a little… wasn’t a life saver or anything.

@orchidaloha:  I ate popsicles and ice all the time! They were the only thing I could eat. Good luck to you, strep is a b****.

that is so scary! can you go back to try another antibiotic? usually you get some sort of relief after taking it for 48 hours.

So sorry you are sick! I get strep throat a lot and I find gargling with a apple cider vinegar or warm salt water to help more than antibiotics. Hope you feel better soon!

@orchidaloha:  I get strep twice every year and my biggest cure is sucking on one of those big ice pops or chewing or drinking minty tea 🙂

It helps a little but won’t make anything go away. Keep taking the anti-biotics and avoid dairy!

My strep occasionally gets really bad since i can’t seem to build an immunity to the stupid disease! I have eczema and that apparently plays some part in the whole thing (so keep your skin hydrated!)

My mom would have us gargle lemon and salt water. It burned so so bad but usually helped. If you do this please be prepared for the worst burning pain ever.

Just thought I should add that 6 days is way too long for the antibiotics to kick in. Go back to the Dr and ask for an antibiotic injection.

@orchidaloha:  Oh man that sucks. The only thing I can suggest is tea with lemon, honey, apple cider vinegar and if you really want to try something crazy…just a small bit of cumin and ginger. Otherwise just keep taking your antibiotics and drink water.

I am so sorry you are going through this 🙁 I agree that a salt water gargle should help. It is something that I have come to rely on when I get sore throats.

Also, just a quick question just in case. Did they do the strep test and it came back positive? I just ask because when I was a freshman in college I had the worst sore throat of my life! They did the test and never called me because it came back negative. Two days later I couldn’t swallow at all and ended up an Urgent Care. They did the test and ran some blood work and it turned out that I had mono! Worst semester ever.

Anyway, I hope that is not the case and that your antibiotics start working and that you can finally get some relief 🙁 Feel better soon!

I’ll always drink hot milk with honey. Pop some comfort movies in the dvd player and get better soon!

1. Did you have a positive strep test?

2. Was it positive?

3. Did they do a monospot?

2. How long have you been on antibiotics?

6 days is WAY too long to still be in pain! Shouldn’t you be near the end of the course?

Definitely go back to the doctor!
