I wanted to elope.  My FI did not.  we have both been married before but have 3 kids between us.  He wanted the kids to be part of the wedding.  We are having a super simple wedding on a small budget.  Our guest list is about 40 people.  We are getting married in our church and having dinner after in a local restaurant.  All told, including honeymoon, clothes, food, alcohol, flowers, honeymoon, etc, we are speding about $7000.  You can do it on a budget.  That cost does not include my ering.

Of course, I live in Kentucky.  I figured about $1200 for food and alcohol, including tax and tip.

GOODNESS!!! you sound like me in the begining. I wanted to elope. The big ceremony is very important to him, so we having one. and i was up untill recently super afraid of the budget and cost. So much so that it affected our releationship.

Just take everything slow, have a serious convo about what you can afford and are willing to pay for. Remeber this time is supposed to be wonderful. and that doesn’t mean it’s going to be stress free. Communicate clearly and openly, and everything will be fine.

You and me both! I don’t even live in a really major city like NYC, but man, do things add up! My fiance and I are also paying for it ourselves, too. Everything related to weddings is so expensive! We just recently started our concrete planning, and we were shocked!

It seems like we are going to have to cut out some not-so-close friends, in order to save money. I’m fine with not inviting each and every person that I have ever met though

TinaNYC55:  My fiance literally just brought that up yesterday. We’re going to try to cut back on wedding costs so that we can afford a down payment on a house down the road. If only we could afford to pay for a wedding and a home…

I know the feeling. We knew that we wouldn’t be getting any help from either set of parents [and that’s perfectly okay! We prefer to do things our way, anyway!]. When we first sat down to figure our the costs, we didn’t want to spend more than 6k. But, we quickly realized that we weren’t going to get to the have the wedding we wanted with such a small budget so we added more, our budget is currently 15k [even though we are slightly over right now] and we are pretty happy with what we are able to afford for that amount.

TinaNYC55:  Things were pretty expensive around here as well because there aren’t a whole lot of places to have weddings. We took some very non traditional routes to save money.

TinaNYC55:  Haha! My fiance is more practical, but I wanted to pretty much invite every one of my Facebook friends. Most of whom I haven’t even seen since high school 4 years ago… Now, we’re down to 65, and most of that is family. I’m more than happy with that 🙂

AHH! I would love a Halloween wedding! You can definitely pick up clearenced items after Halloween too.

TinaNYC55:  definitely just keep decisions tentative. Along with your tentative budget and guest list. Keep an open mind on venue and date if you can. Get lots of quotes for all your other vendors. Decide what is most important to you. It’s great you have some time. For me, I booked it all within a month, that way, I can make payments every paycheck so I won’t be stressed at the end. I had to include it in our budget and cut back on eating out, going out, extras we don’t really need to get what we really wanted in the long run.
