- Wedding: August 2014
So I had actually been planning my wedding for a while before FI and I got engaged. We were talking about things before last spring and my brother and FSIL got engaged in May! Yay! They decided to get married in May of 2014. FI and I wanted to plan an engagement for around then (before we knew they were getting engaged) so we waited until December and then I realized that we’ll have to have the wedding after them. (Well, not *have* to. I just didn’t want to start any potential drama. I want to give them their moment).
For a very long time I’ve wanted a kind of fantasy theme for our wedding. My FI is a fantasy artist and I’ve just always been a big fan. We’re huge LotR fans and my FI sells his art at some Faerie Festivals in the area, so we’re into all of that stuff. I was thinking of how to plan that. Maybe a little bit Midsummer Night’s Dream, but some more personal touches added. I was sure about my color scheme too. My favorite colors are lavendar and sage green. My whole massage room at my work is lavendar and sage green and has lots of dried herbs, vines, and some faerie lights. I kind of wanted to mimic that, but make it fancier and bigger. We’re big eco-friendly people and we love everything natural and organic and just…fae-like.
FSIL said she wants champagne/blush to be one of her main colors. Perfect! I probably won’t use that color but its a great choice for her. She has kind of a vintage elegance about her.
But then she says she also wants lavendars and sage greens. Yikes! She has been pinning ideas similar to what I have on pinterest (but not taking mine necessarily). Things with dried lavendar, etc. which is all pretty popular right now.
I’m trying to decide now… I don’t want to be upsetting and use the same colors that she has, but those are my absolute favorite colors and go perfectly with my theme. I’m having a REALLY tough time thinking of other color options. I’m not a big fan of blue at least for my theme… I really want lots of moss and natural decor, without seeming like I’m copying FSIL (who has almost kind of an English garden feel and says she wants things to be natural and organic).
She says she can see us doing certain things because we’re very whimsical, but at the same time she’s taking the whimsical things I was thinking of (though not intentional).
Anyone have ideas?? These are what I WAS thinking…
(^Not the colors but the set-up)
I was thinking these colors might work, but I don’t know if they’re different enough…
So does anyone else have any whimsical ideas that will be different from FSIL? I want her to do what she wants, but I don’t want to sacrifice too much of what I want in order to not step on toes. I’m not sure what to do here. We’re having a summer wedding in Scotland, so summery colors are good, just not too bright and exotic as I don’t feel that would go with the natural feel I’m going for.
