- Wedding: December 2014 - 13th ~ TN
My wedding dress was being custom made and I just got a call from the dress makers daughter that she had a heart attack.
Okay, first off, before you get all over me for being heartless she seems to be stable, and my wedding is in a couple of months.
I dont think that I will have time to have another one made and I know it is almost too late to order one, except maybe a David’s Bridal. I am not sure what to do at this point. Just really freaked out over it!

David’s bridal can definitely order many dresses within that time!! Dexpending on your location, Im sure other bridal salons could too. You could always buy off the rack or try to find another dress maker. Or buy a pre-owned dress online!!

You have a couple of months — it will be okay. Take a deep breath. 🙂 David’s Bridal got me my dress within about a month. If you explain your situation they will most likely be able to get your dress for you. And even if you’re totally against David’s Bridal, just book an appointment and go try some stuff on — you may be surprised. (I didn’t think I would like anything there, but I ended up getting my dress there! They have so many styles at all price points.) Good luck!

look online for a preowned dress and get it altered.

Do you know how much is done on the dress? Maybe you can get the dress from her and have it finished somewhere else.
How awful of a situation. I really hope she’s okay, and I hope you still get your dream dress.

MrsUPS: Don’t stress! My wedding dress got lost in the mail — true story — after its final alteration. I had thought, of course, that the Chicago shop where I bought my dress could handle just one more alteration on time, and it was because I trusted this place so much that I didn’t do the alterations where I was living. Anyway, the package got lost between the store and my house . . . TEN DAYS before our wedding. I ended up going to a boutique in town, tried on every dress, and their seamstress altered it four times in one week to make it perfect. YOU GOT THIS!

I bought my dress off the clearance rack at David’s (super inexpensive and didn’t have to wait to order it). ALterations turn-around was about a week or two. I highly recommend doing that!
**I’ve also seen weddingish dresses at Nordstroms?

I am a daughter of a dressmaker. If she works alone then I really would not count on this being done in time. It might make sense giving a call to the daughter and just carefully and emphatically try to get a feeling how you should proceed. Eg. you could ask if she can recommend another dressmaker to take over. If she does not seem to be on top of this, then act fast and don’t count on them!
