I have a friend who has nowhere near as many as me but she refuses to go outside in a bikini (she has to wear a coverup, even in the water) because of the stretch marks. My thighs are covered in stretch marks - I look like a purple zebra. But they do not bother me one little bit. I mean sure, if there was a magical lotion that got rid of them instantly I'd definitely buy it. But overall they don't bother me at all.
So what about you? Do you have them? If you do, do they bother you?
I have to say Katt Williams made me laugh on this subject. NSFW btw
But ya.. I have them and I don't give a funk.
Yeah, I've got them on the side on my outer thighs where the hips meet pelvis. They're not toooo noticeable, but when I get a tan they really are.
I'll never be so worried about them that I won't get into a bathing suit! Damnit, it gets hot outside!
Not to mention, I don't even pay attention to them anymore.
I hate hate hate hate them. I have them on my lower back, the tops of my boobs, and my inner thighs, most all from when I lost a ton of weight in college. They're pretty faded now--they're just kind of silvery looking and you probably honestly can't really see them. But i am SO self conscious about the ones on my lower back and I hate wearing bathing suits and having people see them. boo...I am lotioning my body every single day, multiple times a day while preggers so that I don't get any more!
I have them, and I have gotten used to them....mostly. They are all pretty light except for the ones on my belly (pregnancy)..those I hate.
I have them all over my thighs from weight gain. They don't bother me at all though. Bring on summer and bathing suit season!
That said - if there was a magical cream I could buy that would get rid of them, I would just because. But I'm not self-conscious about them.
I've got them on my upper arms, lower back and the top/sides of my boobs. All from when I dropped a ton of weight several years ago. I HATE them! They are more noticeable when I have a tan.
@JamaicaBride: I hear you! I am not a fan of my pregnancy stretch marks either :'(
Tops of my thighs, bottoms of my boobs, and on my butt. They used to be red but now they're a silvery white and I actually like them.
DH and I were lounging in the sun on our honeymoon when he looked at my thigh, whose stretch marks were shimmering in the sunlight, and went, "You have zebra stripes! That looks so cool!" I told him they were stretch marks and most women hate them, and he replied, "Whatever, I still think they look neat." I heart him.
From my experience, and many I know, it doesn't matter how many times a day you lotion, or what kind of lotion, if you are genetically capable of getting them, chances are you will get them during your pregnancy. I used every top lotion on the market, cocoa butter, vitamin e oil ( sticky gooey stuff), bio oil, palmers oil, oilve oil, drank alot of water, excersised every day, and I still got em'!
To answer the OP, the marks themselves don't really bug me, its the fact that my tummy wrinkles from them being so concentated in one spot ( tummy), that bugs me. If that makes any sense. But I can live with em, not like I have much of a choice :) lol
i have them on my outer thighs. So ugly! ick! I wish I didn't have them !
I have them on my thighs not bad but, they do bug me. I am a skinny girl and have always been so i don't understand why i have them. They started when i was 18. I am now 22 and when i do walking and running they seem to go away.
Well, I've had them since as early as I can remember, like elementary school. I rapidly fluctuated in my weight due to a thyroid issue and dropping 60 pounds in a few months and then gaining it back just as quick is no good for the body of an 11 year old.
I accepted them as part of myself and never thought twice about it until... one night I was changing my shirt and right above my hips I have a few REALLY dark ones and DH thought there was something wrong. I was so embarassed. I played it off like I had no clue what they were :( Now I'm self conscious about them.
ETA: I've lost 40 pounds (due to the same condition) since our wedding, which was about the time he said something and they're steadily vanishing but now that I'm pregnant I'm dreading their return.
@Cash000: Yup, you're 100% right. It's the structural tissue deep in the skin that gets pulled apart with stretch marks. Lotions only effect the outer layers of skin. It's the same with cellulite. If people think that creams can change the way their fat cells are structured beneath their skin...well, they deserve to be parted with their money ;-)
I have stretch marks and I absolutely loath them. By far the worst are the ones on the inside of my upper arms and elbows (is there a term for that area that I'm not familiar with? Hmm...). I'm very self conscious and I normally wear long sleeves because of it. Oh how I wish there was a magic pill that made them all go away!
I have some on my hips, but they are hardly noticeable and I have been working out like crazy and I think they are becoming less noticeable because the muscle is making the skin tighter.
They don't bother me, but I'm going to keep up with the working out so they will never bother me.
I have them and I HATE them.
Mine are on the insides of my upper arm and both sides of my torso (more prominent on one side than the other).
I constantly look at them and they make me sad that I stretched my skin so much with weight gain.
I really did put "other" as I am starting to get two faint lines on my breasts
. They are really faint and only show in certain light. They come with age and I don't think there is much I can do.
:( cries
I knew this, but was determined to try anyways when I was pregnant. So I must have wasted, no lie, at least 500 bucks on lotions. So I only tell ladies my experience to prevent them from endless hours of lotions, oil stains on clothes ( think bio oil and vitamin e), and money down the drain!
@Cash000: I don't know if it's just a coincidence or not but when I was in high school I bought Bio-Oil and while it didn't make them go away, they did fade significantly.
I never care about stuff like that.
It is natural, and I think it is sad women are expected to be unrealistic.
(Expected not to sweat, have any hair, I could go on and on!)
I have heard that it does reduce the appearance of them, but not reduce the chances of getting them.
I have them on hips, they arent very noticable I took pics in a bikini and couldnt see them but I think it depends on the lighting but I hate them. It wont stop me from wearing a bikini or anything but I definitely wont miss them if they decide to disappear
I have them on my calves and thighs. They're silvery and not too noticeable so I really don't mind them. My brother had them on his back for a long time. He grew about six inches in one month so his back was covered in them. It was so crazy!
I have them on my hips and they don't bother me. DH has them too and we both just accept it's part of who we are! Perfect bodies don't exist...
I have a few on my upper thighs. They've faded over the years though. I hate them but not enough to stop me from rocking a bikini (love the ruffled type for this reason).
I have them and I HATE them! They've gotten better now than they used to be, but they're still annoying, especially on my thighs during summer/bathing suit season. And what's more annoying is that my sister, who has had two children, doesn't have any stretch marks - I think she got my dad's elasticky skin, whereas I got my mom's. Bummer.
Does anyone know about the Mederma stretch mark lotion??
Ugh. Mine are horrible. Stomach, boobs, butt, thighs--they are hideous. I'm getting a mommy make over in the next few years so a tummy tuck will help.
Before pregnancy, I had maybe two on my inner thigh from my "awkward" teen years of growing in width, then growing in height right after that...I never hated those. I just hate the hundreds that are on my body now.
I have very faded silvery ones and they dont bother me too much. I hope any that I get from this lateset pregnancy fade as well.
I have them on my hips. I remember when I first got them I was around 14 and they were purple/redish. I went to my mom and told her that I though my underwear was too tight because it was leaving red marks on me. When I showed her, she said they were stretch marks and i burst out crying!
For my highschool years, I tried to pick bikinis with booty-shorts (it was a popular style at the time). Then in college, I realized that I didn't notice them on anyone else, so I figured no one would notice mine, so I stopped worrying about them.
I have light ones on my butt, because that's where my weight comes and goes from when I fluctuate. FI has them all over because he lost a significant amount of weight when he was younger. I don't really mind mine, I guess.
@Cash000: That is so depressing :( In that case, I will likely seriously consider getting laser treatment if I get bad ones on my stomach from pregnancy. Although it seems like my sister didn't get them from her pregnancy (but she does have a few in other places) so maybe I'll be okay!
After I got pregnant/gave birth to DD, my stomach became covered in stretch marks.. I joke that I look like a zebra because all of my stripes.. seriously, they're baddddd. They don't bother me, though--I'm not one to wear bikinis, or revealing tops, anyway.
I HATE mine But i have never seen one person with them as bad as mine when i pregnant Mine got so bad that they actually cracked open with me putting EVERYTING imaginable on them. And found out im allergic to coco butter So the allergic reaction all over my stomach probably didnt help much... But yeah i wont wear a bathing suit i havent in almost 4 years and probably wont until I get my abs fused back together and they take away some of that excess skin and strech marks (my doctor told me my stomach skin looks like i had mulitples...)
I don't have any, but neither does my mom, aunt, oma etc. I guess I'm not predisposed, but I'm quite lean and have also been the same size since highschool. Haven't been pregnant yet, so I will see how that treats me down the line. That said, I really don't even notice them on other women when I'm at the beach. I think that we always fixate on our "imperfections" when other people barely notice them. Us women are far too hard on ourselves!
I've had stretch marks since jr. high when I had a major growth spurt that made me really tall, skinny, and gangly.. they're on my inner thighs and I used to be SO embarrassed.. I'm not embarrassed anymore but I hide them if I can (which is pretty easy- who looks at peoples inner thighs?)
I have them, and seriously hate them. I don't like to look at them, and I hate it when my FI touches them. If there was something that I could do to make them better I really would. I knew my skin had very little elasticity to begin with, and then having a 9lb 4oz baby didn't help any. She was totally worth it, but I really do hate them. :)
