Hi There, try Mannes College. Elizabeth Aaron is the Director. She is very easy to work with. We hired a pianist for the cocktail hour and string trio for the dinner reception.
Most conservatory music-for-hire programs in cities (esp. Boston & NYC) have suggested rates of at least $100-$125 per person, per hour. I'm not sure if you were looking to spend less on a string trio, or just maximize how you use your money. Craig's list might be a better bet better bet because you can say exactly how much you're willing to spend, and also specify that you'd like to hear people before hiring them - that's usually not standard when you hire through a conservatory. Good luck!!!
I had a flute, cello and violin for my ceremony and cocktail hour from Sterling Music Ensemble. Allegra was a pleasure to work with and really patient with all my questions. I was charged about $850 for my musicians and for NYC, I don't feel that is too terrible as I checked with a handful of others that wanted over 1k for their musicians. While the music that they play is limited, it is still a very good selection. Feel free to check them out at www.sterlingmusic.com and let me know if you have questions!
i went with Capriccio Ensemble...they are truly talented! A little pricey but their talent certainly makes up for it. I'm highly picky about music though so was wililng to pay more. Can't stand music mediocrity :P
I was recommended to Ambrosia Ensembles. They are based in NJ but might be cheaper prices.

I ended up just using the music director at the church who plays organ/piano/flute and sings then hired a violinist from this group as an extra.

hi ladies,
our organist charges $350 (!) to play for an hour. i'm having second thoughts about using him and paying that much for something that i am not in love with. i'd like to look into hiring a string trio to play at the cermony. any suggestions on where to find one? thanks!
