Has anyone used or looked at Stroga/Adams Morgan Mansion for their wedding reception?  If so, how does catering/equipment/etc. work?  We currently have Woodend Sanctuary booked for the reception, but am having a bit of difficulty wondering how everything will work (Friday wedding, rush hour, ceremony is in Woodley Park).

    Thank you!

I don't know that I would plan anything in the DC region on a Friday (or other weekday) evening. The traffic is just plain evil. if you do follow through with it, could you at least have the ceremony and reception at the same place? It seems to be tempting the traffic demons twice over if you have your ceremony and reception at 2 different places, unless both placres are within easy (in stillettos) walking distance of each other.

I completely agree - Stroga is within walking distance of the church.  We have to get married at a church (religious reasons).  We also are going with Friday because my future in-laws are from England, and expressed concern getting home if the wedding were to be on a Saturday.  All a little crazy - we're on a budget as well, and were a little quick to book Woodend.

Yeah, Woodend is pretty, but I think you are smart to look for a reception venue within walking distance. I have no experience with the Adams morgan mansion, though. That neighborhood has lots of restaurant options. One of those could work for a low-key reception, if that is the vibe you are going for. Have you checked out the DC wedding blogs for venue ideas? District Weddings is great. Ritzy Bee may also be helpful. United With Love has a pretty robust vendor guide for DC venues, too.

We looked at Stroga.  I don't recommend it if you are on a budget.  They are basically a blank slate.  The mansion is beautiful but they do not provide anything.  Your caterer would have to provide all tables, chairs, cooking equipment, everything.  I did research and some caterers charged extra for moving the equipment (ballroom is 2-3 levels up with no elevator).  We are also getting married on Friday and I was worried about our guests emptying out into the Adams Morgan madness after the wedding.  Also, there is NO parking so you would have to provide a valet.  In the end, it was a logistical (and financial) nightmare for us.

Hey we are date twins!!!  Have you looked at McLean Gardens Ballroom, the Woodrow Wilson House or the Josephine Butler Parks Center?

@krisreed03: Not sure if you've booked a place, but Stroga is having legal issues with ABRA because of "events" they are hosting. We looked at it, but were worried that they may lose the ability to host events all together. If you want more info, PM me and I can show you what we've seen.

    Good luck!

Stroga told me that the neighborhood/community allows them to host a certain number of events per month (I forget the number).  I'm a wedding photographer and just photographed a wedding there last month.  It's true that it's a blank slate...which on the positive side means you can make it look like exactly what you want!  See how my couple, Carla & Pete, and their wedding planner designed it here: Wedding Photography at Stroga (L'Aiglon Mansion)

    Hope this helps!
