@Payless:  This might not be helpful at all, but it’s the first thing that came to mind. Can you start by writing down some of your favorite song lyrics that describe how you feel about your FI? See where that takes you and try to build on the lyrics using your own words.

I probably need to be taking my own (possibly unhelpful) advice. I have to finish mine, too, for next weekend!

@Payless:  Here they are:

I take you X as my husband and in making my commitment to you, I promise to work harder when times are tough and smarter when times are good.  I may not know everything our future holds but I know together as partners we can take on whatever comes our way.  We are never lonely and never afraid when we’re together. (A Farewell to Arms by Ernest Hemingway)

A great spouse loves you exactly as you are.  An extraordinary spouse inspires you to be your very best.  You have helped make me a better person today and you challenge me to be an even better person tomorrow.  You give me the courage, strength, and support to seek the best in myself and give that back to the world.

I will laugh with you in times of joy, and comfort you in times of sorrow. I will share in your dreams and support you as you strive to achieve your goals. I will listen to you with compassion and understanding, and speak to you with hope and encouragement.

As a family, we will create a home filled with learning, laughter, and compassion.  I promise to respect you and cherish you as an individual, a partner, and an equal, knowing that we do not complete, but complement each other.  Together we will build a life far better than either of us could imagine alone.

I accept you as you are, and I offer myself in return.  I promise to always be your biggest fan and your partner against the world.

On a side note, definitely make sure to back up your vows so they don’t end up lost.  Thank goodness I previously posted mine here because they were deleted off my hard drive somehow.

@CurlyTop24:  Thanks.  I searched the Internet for quotes and vows I liked and then I cut and paste and reworded them until I felt like they were done.

@Payless:  Haha dont panic, thats normal!

Just start by writing down things randomly, like a brainstorm bullet point session.

Then see if you can put those into writing. Dont worry about making it sound perfect or the length at first – you can refine those later. In fact its prob better to have long ones and then cut out or make things more concise.

Here is the general format my fiance and I followed – but like i said, try those things above first before trying to follow any online format 😛

1. First sentences: Something about the day / Something about that moment with your significant other standing in front of you / How you are feeling on that day
2. Humor: Place to add a little humor if you want. Something silly/funny about your relationship as a couple or about you in the relationship or him/her
3. Honor: How you feel about your significant other/ Special things you love about them, Special things they may bring out in you. Something special about your story as a couple.
4. Actual Wedding vows & Promises: – Most important part. What you want for the rest of your lives together. Things you want to ensure/create going forward. Promises that you want to make to and for your significant other. Vows of love, etc.
Note:** Be yourself and focus on your relationship. Don’t worry about what anyone else will think. The only person who matters is the person you are making the vows to.

I can actually send you a copy of mine if that is helpful as well!

@beachbride1216:  That is beautiful!

@Payless:  My FI wants us to write our own vows and although I’m usually good at writing I knew if I waited i would come to a big blank nothing. LOL I’ve just been kinda writing down ideas here and there and hopefully it will come together. i HATE public speaking, i get soooo nervous…even if i’m just reading something…so i figure the earlier i start working on it the better haha! I’m sure your vows will come together wonderfly though
