I’m a special education teacher and work in a k-12 school for kids with severe special needs. One of our students went in to the hospital over break because of a bad seizure and her condition became considerably worse as days went by. She passed away today. Only 7 years old. I know there is nothing anyone could have done, but I just have such a strong feeling of sadness over this. I feel so much pain for her family, as well as our school staff and her friends.
I guess I just need a hug after a day like today. Everyone at my school needs a hug. I cant even imagine how the family feels. I just don’t know what to say. FI is at work and I haven’t been able to talk to anyone about it. :/

((HUGS))) It’s an especially awful thing when bad stuff happens to children. I taught for 10 years and was crushed when anything happened to one of the kids. No platitudes – it just sucks.

Sorry to hear hug. As someone who works w/ grief and loss all the time I wish I had a quickie quote to help you. I hope you have support at work to handle this difficult time.

I am so sorry to hear about this OP . This must be really hard for you, because as a fellow teacher (ECE) I know how much we love our students and how close to our hearts they are. Sometimes we know them more than their parents do, and that connection between teacher and child is so strong. It is always so hard when children pass away, because they are so young and innocent. I think you should get in touch with councellor services, and talk to your colleagues and make sure that you grieve properly. Again, I am so sorry to hear what you’re going through. *Hugs*

My nephew is special needs, and my mom works with special needs kids at school as a nurse. I know how attached the teachers become to their students. I’m so sorry for your loss. (((HUGS)))

@IronMango: this is so sad to lose such a young life :(.
Im currently working at a childcare centre so I couldn’t imagine losing one of these precious little guys. I am also currently studying at university to become a primary school teacher and I know how attached us teachers get to the children and the special relationship formed between teacher and her students.
I am really sorry that this has happened and I’m glad you are reaching out to the beautiful wedding bee community for support because its important to not close off from people and to talk to people. <Hugs>

Having something happen to any of your students can be devastating. One of my students got shot right outside our school one year and thankfully he was ok, but just the fact that that happened was extremely sad and made us all cry. As teachers, we can really love our students and its never fun to hear anything happen to them.
