I would call a couple of transportation companies in your area and ask what they recommend. One of the companies we might go through recommended 2 months for some of their shuttle buses and 1 month (or less) for others. It depends how many of each size they have in their fleet.
If you know how big the bus/limo is going to have to be, I don’t think there’s any reason you can’t get this figured out ahead of time. Alternatively, if you are providing transportation to guests, it might be good to include it as an option on the RSVP card. That way you can book the correct size. Maybe a company will let you reserve a bus but then also allow you to upgrade or downgrade the size depending on your needs.
