Shes has the fake bride on her inspiration to reality board wearing a HUGE fur bolero. I made a comment about how i was unhappy she was glorifying fur and how animals are skinned alive to make it. She deleted my comment twice! If she wants to promote something so controversial than she needs to be able to handle critcism. Im tired of people thinking fur is fashionable and pretty. Its inhumane, ugly, and unneccesary. Ok thats the end of my vent it really upset me!

Are you sure it was real fur?  I am wearing a faux fur jacket for my wedding.

i thought you were going to say that it was super weird that they're just creating wedding shoots instead of featuring regular weddings.

Hmmm I agree, I think bloggers shouldn't censor their comments unless they are inappropriate or personal attacks, which it doesn't sound like yours was.

Maybe she knows there is no justification for supporting the fur industry? Or maybe she truly does believe it's okay and just doesn't want any controversy on her blog. But either way she should have at least allowed your comment to remain.

I love SMP but this kind of changes the way I look at it...

If it is she should state it. I personally dont care for the look of fur fake or not. People dont know if its fake and wearing fur at all promotes that look. I feel like the whole fashion trend needs to be put to an end.

I have zero problem with fake fur. I like fake fur, in fact. I think, though, that the blog should indicate if the bolero is real or fake fur. And censorship is not OK no matter what, as long as you weren't really inappropriate with your comment.

It's faux. It says it right in the blog.

Are you sure the bolero was, in fact, actual fur?

I can understand being upset, but also appreciate that she may have felt as though your comment was off-topic or potentially hurtful to those who've chosen to incorporate similar aesthetic elements without harming animals.

As for censorship, it may seem like bad form, but bloggers aren't out of line in removing comments, I don't think.  We invite people to our wedding receptions, but if they begin behaving in ways that we deem disruptive or offensive (to US, not to the world at large), we're entitled to ask them to leave or have them removed, no?

Well, luckily we all are entitled to our own option.  I like faux fur.  I don't own any real fur, and probably wouldn't ever own any.  Actually, the only faux fur item I have is for my wedding.  I don't think fur is a trend - it is a personal choice.  I don't advocate it.

She doesn't owe you anything.  People can wear whatever they want.

But in the same breath, do you eat meat?  I've never understood people who are so anti-fur, but don't mind a big juicy steak.

Um, maybe she doesn't care? Maybe it's an old stole?

My mom has mink coats in her closet...still wears them b/c they're "classy in a vintage way".It's part of an older generation thought that's dying out with our generations. I don't like 'em--they can hide in the closets!

I wouldn't think twice about somebody wearing a fur bolero in a shoot--the vintage look is in and fur is vintage. I think most people are not on board with the idea of REAL fur, but find fake fur totally acceptable in both ethical and fashion trends.

I don't see the big deal. I'd delete your comment, too, if you implied animals were skinned alive to make the fur if in fact, they weren't! Maybe she doesn't want a blog war on her hands???

just because you personally dont like fur doesnt mean millions of us out here agree. i love fur.  i love the way it feels.  i love the way it smells.  and i love the way it keeps me warm - being from MI, most of the people I know own some type of fur - trimmed hat, gloves, trimmed coat, full fur coat, etc.  i love leather. i love meat. and i KNOW that you cant possibly wear leather or eat meat based on your beliefs, right? maybe she deletes all negative posts?  i would probably delete your post too if i - the blogger - deemed it too inflammatory or inappropriate for my personal blog.  if it bothers you that much, stop reading.

@ejs - Totally agree re: real fur being part of the older generation. My G-ma has a bunch of real fur but I don't know anyone else who has anything but faux.

And I honestly don't think that faux fur in any way promotes real fur - it's faux for a reason, cause some people dont WANT real fur anymore.

I second both ej4y8 and FutureMrsMorgan.

I'm wearing a vintage stole to my vintage styled wedding, which is my choice. Just because you "feel" that it isn't morally right doesn't mean that I don't "think" that it is an appropriate choice for myself. Just as ejs4y8 mentioned, using false reasoning that animals are "skinned alive" does not make a flame war, or pushing your own opinions on others acceptable.

If that's how you feel about it, then live it. But don't force others to follow your beliefs, it only detracts from your message.

While you are certainly entitled to your opinion, she is under no obligation to allow you to have free reign to say what you want on her blog. Just like I would not let you come into my house and take a poo in the oven and allow you to stick around. People are weird about their "houses" - virtual or otherwise - that way.

Moreover, she probably deleted your comment because you were wrong - twice - and it's an incendiary topic and she didn't want a giant war on her hands.

I don't care re: fun fur vs. real fur.

I find a lot of people that are "Anti-Fur" aren't "Anti-Leather"... that to me is a problem. Fur and leather = same thing! lol!

Yeah, I'm really into animal rights and such, but I don't see how fake fur promotes the wearing of real fur.  In fact, fake fur is a safe, humane, and fashionable alternative to wearing real fur.

@Lindsay12.31.2010, I think the difference between wearing fur and eating steak is the fact that one is used for the nourishment of the human body and the other is for the sake of fashion. I'm not taking either side because, well, I just don't want to go there - but I do think there's a difference between wearing fur and eating meat. Just my two cents...

Perhaps, but eating meat isn't a requirement to nourish your body.  Ask a vegetarian.  It's a choice, just like wearing fur.

    Lindsay, I agree with you.

I'm a vegetarian, but I wouldn't preach to someone about wearing fur. I expect people to respect my choice, so I respect theirs.

The comments say that it is a faux fur.

edit: Abby the owner of the blog made that comment. I'm guessing she did so after she deleted your comments to help difuse the situation.

@melissa: Me too!  It's so annoying to see photo shoots with models as opposed to real weddings.

Wow...I think Abby has every right to moderate the comments. Furthermore, you were wrong twice, so maybe she just didn't want a comments war to take place on her blog!

@melissa-- I actually like the inspiration to reality feature (as long as they don't do it too much) because it's cool to see things that are the exact result of someone's inspiration board, no holds barred.  I can see it getting annoying though if it becomes just as common as the real weddings.

On another note, Mrs. Cowboy Boot was featured on there the other day which I think is so cool!

... if it said it was fake, then the comment was null and void.
