Hello bees –
I’ve never posted on the college board before, but I think my friends and family are tired of hearing about this. I finally submitted my (single) application to grad school this morning! It’s a specialized program offered at Rutgers-Newark… it’s a MA in Jazz History and Research. I feel confident about my personal statement, writing sample, GPA, and other credentials (GRE is not required). One of my undergrad professors has several connections at Rutgers and will be writing one of my letters of recommendation, and I have even played host to a retired professor of the program when he has visited my current school, so I feel like I have a lot of positive things going for me.
But I’m still so nervous about getting accepted! What if all the applicants this year are much more qualified than me? What if they’ve already accepted all that they care to accept for the coming school year (it’s on rolling admissions)? What if I’m just not as qualified as I think I am?
And I hate waiting… I know my transcript will not arrive until Monday or Tuesday at the absolute earliest, and my 3 recommenders still have to fill out forms and I know they have lives of their own. I shouldn’t even be worried yet, since it would basically be impossible to hear anything before the end of next week and I shouldn’t even be expecting a response that early, but STILL!
I’m sure those of you in grad school or waiting for a response can sympathize. Thanks for listening! It’s such a big, life-changing thing. I’ll let you know when I hear anything… (I keep refreshing my email every 2 seconds)…

Good luck! If it’s rolling admissions for the upcoming fall, I think you’re ahead of the game. I submitted my app for grad school in late February/early March for rolling admissions to 3 big name schools in DC, and I heard back within a month from all of them with acceptances. SO, you definitely are okay on your timing!
Try to distract yourself over the next few weeks to make the waiting more bearable. I’m keeping my fingers crossed for you! Let me know when you get the big yes letter! 🙂

Good luck!! I remember the grad school waiting game.. eventually I stopped worrying about it and I got acceptance letters/calls when I wasn’t expecting it. Keep us updated!

Good Luck! Waiting is horrible, so I hope you don’t have to wait too long, and I hope it’s great news!

Good luck! There is nothing worse than waiting for application responses, feeling like you’re stalking the mail man.

Good luck! Are you applying to any backups?
I only applied to one program as well.

Thanks for the support, everyone!
@eagle: Nope, no backups. If I don’t get in right away, I’m plan to teach music for a while (preferably elementary) before working on a masters in music ed with an emphasis in jazz, or simply re-applying to this same program, depending on why I didn’t get in.

Good Luck! I remember when my Best Friend was going through this, she also was so scared as she only had her BS when applying, and alot of others had their Masters, but she got into her program that only accepted 6 applicants! Positive thinking goes a long way dont stress yourself out! 🙂
