Hello Bees...This has been a GREAT weekend financially and just wanted to share my good news with somebody. Didn't want to gloat to my friends in these tough times but this wedding has been draining my savings and it has been a great relief to have some unexpected help arrive. First on friday, I got a great bonus at my job! We haven't got any raises in the last two years and I wasn't expecting anything this year, but apparantly they've decided to pay out some decent bonuses to compensate for that and I got about 4x what I expected. Me and FI brought out the champagne to celebrateLaughing

Then today, I got the courage to ask my dad if he will be able to help with the wedding at all. It had been mentioned in passing before but he had not sounded too enthusiastic and we'd never discussed a figure. He doesn't share my excitement over this wedding as it will be my second marriage so I think he feels like "been there, done that". But today I asked pointe blank if he would be able to contribute $7K to my wedding fund. He said, "sure no problem, I'll send 10K". Then I felt a little embarrassed but he insisted on that amount saying it's no biggie and this can cover the unforeseen extras. And it definitely will. Now we can shop for nicer bands instead of the the plain gold ones I was planning on, and we don't have to stress out over capping the guest list at 60 and can invite more friends. I'm so happy!

yay! so excited for you :) I love getting good news like that. My fi just found out he's getting a little bonus like 2 weeks before our wedding which was amazing and totally lifted a weight off my shoulders!

That is great to have more choices! But it is also very tempting to get carried away with more money. Why not make a budget instead and then carry over any excess towards your future?

OK.. maybe I sounds like a bit of a party pooper.. but even if I was given an extra $10,000 to spend on my night, I really wouldn't change a thing!!!

    Thanks again everyone :)

@cherryblossom - We've pretty much booked all our vendors and have a budget in place, which would've required $7K more than what we have in the bank now. I was hoping my dad would help cover that, or else I'd have to pull it out of my savings (which is a separate fund for our future). But not only was he nice enought to offer it but $3K extra too. That extra money will just be our cushion, and we won't have to worry about a few extra people RSVP'ing, or choosing the least expensive entree etc. Which makes planning a lot more fun :)
