@Jw1724:  How formal are you planning the event to be? He would probably look handsome in something simple, like a dark green button-up shirt with a green and gold tie (for a festive touch) with black slacks or dark jeans.

I Like the sweater and button down combo. It’s my SO’s go-to outfit. Depending how dressy, you can pair a tie with it. If you want more casual, leave untucked like above.

@girlygirl885:  This would be a great outfit. You could even swap out the shirt underneath for one with more Christmas-themed colors for an extra snazzy effect. 🙂

Girl, I totally feel you on this one! My SO is a state park ranger and usually wears t-shirts and jeans when he’s not in his uniform. You really can’t go wrong with a nice button-up shirt and dark jeans or, if slightly more formal, khakis or even black dress slacks. You can dress button-up shirts up or down, so they’re super versatile. Dark green or maroon (so it’s not overtly in-your-face RED) would both look great on him. My SO has rocked the dark red/maroon button-up before, and it looked totally masculine on him. I agree that gold is a nice accent color in the tie, like if it’s a striped tie with alternating green and gold. My SO also loves layering, so a nice vest or leather jacket over it could help complete the look.

Good luck! I’m glad that your SO lets you pick out clothes for him!

I’m a big fan of a button-up shirt and khakis, or maybe some corduroys…and a nice plaid or flannel really says “Christmas!” to me. You can always add a sweater as PP suggested!

Something like this guy (J.Crew)

with these babies (Banana Republic)

Simple, classic, and not too buttoned up for a usually casual guy 🙂

@Jw1724:  Of course that image is TEENY tiny. But I think something like a nice chunky half-zip? I can never get my FI to wear sweaters. …I don’t think that man owns a single sweater!

Why not go for a patterned sweater with jeans to make it a little Christmas-y?

Im all for the button up shirt with a sweater look. My fiance and I went to a christmas party last week, and I went shopping for him and got him this look, he loved it and felt really sexy and classy in it! 🙂
