Im looking for a venue for around 200-250pple that will also provide some sort of outside space to gather for either cocktail hour or a place for the guest smokers in the group.  Definitely somewhere with a nice view either around Capital region, lake george, catskills....I would even be willing to go to vermont.

Jimbo's Club at the Point... very unfortunate name for such a nice place.  It's at Point O Pines on Brandt Lake in the Adirondacks.  Because it's a summercamp, you can only have weddings during the "off" weeks, which are I think before June or after August???  I fell in love with this place, but my fiance said it was too far for us.  Oh well, it's nice though.

We also looked at Crystal Cove in Averill Park, which is on a lake.  Very pretty venue, but the packages were a little weird, you have to bring your own alcohol.  And the bathrooms were strange, they were clean but they reminded me of a bathroom at a campground or something.  Other than those 2 things I really liked it.

My favorite part of Lake George is the northern end because it's not so crowded or commercial (the Sagamore is beautiful but it's kind of a wedding factory). I love the charming little town of Hague for example. Not sure of a good site for that many people though. Maybe the Northern Lake George Yacht Club? You might also find someone up there with a lodge (one of the old "camps" as they're known) who'd be willing to rent it out. I'd check with a local realtor like Alison Craig.

Of course if you're looking for a beautiful Hudson Valley wedding in a barn I've got one of those (sorry for the plug, I hope that's not too tacky). I don't know if I could accommodate that many people though (200 is the most I've had). It may be a bit too far south of Albany for you too (we tend to get the NYC crowd).

Anyway, good luck, sounds like fun.

Hi! Having to bring your own alcholol is great!  You really save a great deal of money by providing your own.  Call a local package store and they will deliver the day of; but I would suggest sending it to a trusty friend's house and asking him/her to bring the drinks.  That way you know it is arriving.  I did that, and it was great!  we saved sooo much money!

Do they provide the glasses and bartenders?

Crystal Cove Bathrooms:  You can really use that rustic theme if you are doing a shabby chique wedding.  Get baskets and line it with printed floral fabrics to compliment your color theme...fill them w/plants [that you take home later]; or nail polish, sewing thread, tampax, pins, safety pins, etc.  You could have cute framed photos of when you were kids at the beach; or on a picnic.

For our wedding I found a table in the road side trash, got a nice lace tablecloth, covered the table and put a vase of flowers, cute initial disposable hand towels in baskets, and personal size kleenex in baskets the women's room.  It was a very sterile and blah looking bathroom with an institutional trash can.  I took the can out and had cute white waste basket instead.

I put a few scented defuisers around to give some sweet scent.  It was great.  Just work w/the bathroom to 'pretty it up.'

As for the men's room; they don't notice.

Let us know what you decide.

Ohh...look at the Hall of Springs in Saratoga Springs.  It is absolutely beautiful and there is a lot of outside space as well.  I went to a wedding there a couple of years ago and it was stunning, you wouldn't need to do much decorating either!  Here is a link!

I'm also a hopeful fall 2011 bride looking for a venue in either the Capital District/Lake George/Lake Placid areas. I really want an outdoorsy feel to the place and if anyone has any other suggestions on places PLEASE send them along. Starting to get frustrated.

I actually just came across the Crystal Cove place last night. It seemed nice. I liked that there were water and trees right there all around you. I have been researching all sorts of places in and around the area (many WAY too pricey for us, but gorgeous) if you'd like amy names let me know.

Also wondering if anyone had any feedback on a place called (if i remember correctly) Blue Water Manor?

I understand the frustration. I felt the same way and was also looking for an outdoorsy setting. I finally found the Pruyn House in Colonie. It has gardens and a barn for the reception. It's beautiful and unique and centrally located. I would suggest checking it out.

Definitely don't cross Crystal Cove off your list based on what I said.  For us, their packages and lack of alcohol were strange, but that's only because we wanted something really straightforward.  I think if we had the time to put extra effort into thinking about how to make it work, we could have had a great wedding there for a lot cheaper than where we ended up.  The owners were a little out there, but very kind and answered all of our questions- they obv know what they're doing.  It was really beautiful there, it's worth checking out.

I'm getting married in Vermont at Stratton Mountain near Manchester.  They can do up to 220 I think.  www.stratton.com

A lot of the ski mountains do weddings in the off season.  Plenty of room, lodging on site etc!

    Something to think about!

If you are looking for a great place for your wedding in Lake George (literally on the lake), I would suggest The Inn at Erlowest. I was married there this past September and my wedding was absolutely GORGEOUS! Beautiful views, cocktail hour on the veranda overlooking the lake, reception in the most stunning ballroom with french doors open to the lake view and the veranda. The staff is wonderful - everything went off without a hitch (my family and my husband's family are still talking about it and continue to say that it was the best wedding they ever attended).  The Inn at Erlowest only does one wedding per day, and guests can stay at the inn (both families didn't have to worry about traveling so everyone was really relaxed).

My husband and I said we were so thrilled to have our wedding there, we are hoping to be able to go back there and be guests at another wedding. We are planning to go back to stay at the inn for our first anniversary (that's another bonus, we can always celebrate our anniversary there)! If you want to look for yourself visit theinnaterlowest.com
