This looks really neat!
We live in Saratoga and go to Burlington VT for weekends from time to time - it's a pretty drive, probably about 2 1/2 or 3 hours away, good restaurants, fun things to do. Love it there.
what about up to Montreal or over to Boston? If you are wanting more of a relaxed/lay around weekend then how about a bed and breakfast or an inn in the adirondaks?
ps- I'm in Oneonta about an hour west of Albany!
How far away are you from the finger lakes? It's a beautiful area and great for wine tasting. There's this great little cabin we go to often on Seneca Lake. Very affordable, serene, and homemade breakfast included! Pet friendly too! Can't remember if you have a dog? If you don't no worries they clean really well!
Or how about Lake Placid? It's far for me but much closer for you!
Pumpkinville, NY (seriously) but Id go during fall. ANYWHERE in NH, love it there or A.C
So, I'm not sure what all there is to do around (wine maybe?) but we stayed here once when driving between Boston and Rochester.
It's a LEGIT castle that has been transformed into a B&B and the owners are super nice and the rooms are super impressive (but I think there are only 2).
I think Amsterdam is a pretty small town, but there might be things to do surrounding.
Anyway, I thought it was cool to stay there one night :)
Good luck!
Just went to Mystic over New Years Eve. Hotels are reasonably priced. We stayed at the Hyatt and my FI found some sweetheart deal...room with a bottle of wine. We went to the Old Mistick Village which was walking distance from the hotel. There is also a little village down by the draw bridge which is cute. We mainly went out there for Mohegan Sun though. FI is obsessed with that place (and the nachos at Margaritaville.) We arent big gamblers, but still love the atmosphere and the food they have to offer there!

I've decided to book a weekend getaway for DH's V-Day gift but I haven't figured out where I want to go. It needs to be within driving distance from Upstate (Albany/Saratoga area), preferably 4 hours away or under. I'm not looking to spend a lot so I'm hoping to get away with $500 for the whole shebang. I'm leaning towards Mystic, CT but I'm open to all suggestions.
Where would you go for a weekend getaway in the north east? (We're not much for skiing so that's out)
