Hi. My fiancé and I were thinking of going a dark grey suit for the wedding, but the assistant in the shop said grey would look awful against my ivory dress and that we should go black. My fiancé was considering wearing an ivory vest and tie as well. What are your thoughts or what have you done? My dress is the pronovias alcanar btw.

My dress is ivory lace and tulle and FI choose a black tux but i think gray would look just as nice. I say let him wear what he likes, it’s his day too 🙂

They are both neutral colors, they will look fine! That shop employee sounds like they were just projecting their own taste onto you. But seriously. Nothing looks bad with ivory, except maybe stark white. Go for it!

The shop assistant is an idiot. Grey looks perfectly fine with ivory. I personally prefer black tuxes, but it’s your wedding. They wouldn’t make grey tuxes if they looked bad.

Was the black suit more expensive? I’m inclined to think that employee was pushing for you to get the pricier suit and make a bigger commission. There’s no reason why grey and ivory wouldn’t ever go well together! I’m going to be wearing an ivory dress and FI is wearing a dark grey suit too!

I have an ivory lace dress and my boys will be in a Vera Wang charchoal suit. I have never heard anything about grey and ivory not working together! I think if there was any truth to this I would have read/heard about it in my year long planning adventure

How funny. I had this same dilehmma. I wanted to fiance to wear a dark grey/grey suit as well, but he doesn’t like that color and REALLY didn’t want to wear it. So he’s wearing a black tux with an ivory vest and an ivory tie.

My dress is Ivory lace and my BM and the men are going to be wearing dark gray. Dark gray is one of our wedding colors. I don’t think the consultant knows what she’s talking about. Ivory is a neutral color, just like black, brown, white and gray are neutrals. Gray and Ivory look fine together.
Here is a picture of invitations I found in gray and ivory

My dress is ivory lace and FI will be wearing dark gray, too (although we haven’t seen how it will look together yet since we purchased his custom suit online). We were originally going to do light gray but I felt like it washed him out too much because he is blonde haired. And we didn’t want to do black because it seemed too stuffy and formal, but that’s just our personal tastes.

Black tends to look more formal, so if you’re going for a less formal vibe, then a grey is a great choice.
Here’s an ivory/dark grey combo (and you can see what it looks like against different shades of grey, at that). I think it looks soft and lovely:

Dark gray is totally fine, that person has no sense of color coordination!
