Hi Bees! My fiance wants his 3 groomsmen to wear suits for the wedding, and he is planning to buy the suits for them (so we’d like to keep the cost to about $250/suit). He loves the look of gray suits – not sure yet between charcoal or a lighter gray. The challenge is that my fiance and two of his groomsmen are quite slender, and would prefer a slim-cut suit. The third groomsman is of average height but is a bigger guy, and likely wouldn’t be comfortable in a slim-cut suit. So we’re trying to find options that could work across all three men. Here are some options we are considering
1) Match suits – everyone wears either a gray slim cut suit or a gray regular cut suit (not ideal since we’d want everyone to feel comfortable and look good)
2) Match suits – find a suit option in our price range that comes in both slim cut and regular cut, with the same fabric/color/overall look of the suit – so two groomsmen wear the suit in slim cut, and the third wears a regular cut (does this even exist? I would love this option but we haven’t been able to find this in our price range yet)
3) Mismatched suits – each of the three groomsmen wears different suits, but we try to keep the gray color as similar as possible, and tie the look together by matching ties or pocket squares (this might be the most realistic alternative but my bridesmaids are wearing matching dresses – their choice, not mine – and so wouldn’t this look weird??)
Is there anyone who has faced something similar? What did you end up doing? Are there any options I’m missing? Any suggestions or advice would be greatly appreciated!

@essiesstyle: I think each groomsmen should get a suit that looks best on them. We have three groomsmen in our wedding, various sizes, I would hate to make them uncomfortable wearing a suit they didn’t like. I would say slim cut for the more slender and a classic cut for the groomsmen that is a little bigger. I’m sure you could find them in all the same color if you went with a gray.

We had the same issue with our groomsmen. Dh’s friend who is bigger went for a bigger coat in the slim cut still but a regular pant. J. Crew has great suits.

@essiesstyle: What’s the budget, per suit?

@essiesstyle: We had the same issue. Unfortunately we couldn’t find any grey suits in slim/european cut and regular that were the same. What we ended up doing was getting a suit for FI and getting just the pants from the same suit for the guys and they are all wearing the same long sleeve shirts and a tie.

I think mismatched but very similar (same number of buttons if poss- same fabric) is the best bet. I’m sure you can find a close match. Especially since he’s buying them (and presumably they will keep them)- it makes sense to pick out what fits each man best so the suit and money isn’t wasted. I think slightly mismatched suits will be a lot less noticeable than slightly mismatched dresses, since suits have a lot less variation.

I would say try to find a suit that suits all of their body types if you can.My fiancé and his two brothers are all completely different heights and sizes but we managed to find a suit that looked fantastic on all of them (my fiancé had to have the suit jacket tailored because he is 6’3 and quite thin but the result was fantastic). Having said that, it depends on how big a size difference you have between the guys?
Here is a pic of my groom and his brothers for reference. Not sure what country you are in but these suits are from Roger David’s in Australia and we got them on sale for around $140 each. Bargain!

Have you checked Jos. A. Bank? I know they offer both slim and regular cut cuits, and I would guess that they would have the same fabric offered in both styles.

Thanks everyone for the suggestions. I’ll check out Jos A Bank and maybe check Macy’s/J Crew one more time for suits offered in both slim and regular. And if that doesn’t work, they’ll just all be different (but close-enough) gray suits.
@katchin lovely photo! You look amazing, and the groomsmen are so handsome in their suits! You got an amazing deal!
