@documentmqster:  Where is the wedding located? Hotel, beach, restaurant? is there anyone you can call to ask?  I’m having a beach wedding and we put Resort attire recommended Flip flops encouraged…meaning no suits or ball gowns Or stuffy attire.

ETA: maybe a tommy Bahamas shirt and nice pants…I wouldn’t wear a tie

id say dressy casual: slacks, an elegant shirt, and maybe a blazer or sweater depending on weather. id assume a tie is optional

I would say trousers/slacks and a nice shirt (ie one with buttons that requires ironing).   If you are wearing a really nice button up dress shirt, you could go more casual with the pants to maybe dockers or something similar.    No tie.   A blazer might be nice in case it gets chilly outside later in the evening.

@documentmqster:  With summer attire, I think lighter colors, lighter fabrics, definitely no tie. I like what PPs have said for clothes and am a big fan of bringing a blazer just in case. Some nice canvas shoes, like boat shoes, would complete the look.

Agree with all the PP’s – no tie, nice shirt, slacks.  It’ll probably be the most comfortable you ever get to be at a wedding 😉

I went to a similar wedding (hosted at my friend’s in-laws large cottage on the lake.  Most of the guys had dress shirts but they did not wear ties.

Our wedding is outside in August. I didn’t give a guideline for dress but I would be perfectly fine if guys show up in nice shorts, nice flip flops, and a polo. To me, that is summer attire. I would ask.

Slacks and a button down shirt. Summery (i.e. lighter) colors. No tie. You might be over dressed, but better than being underdressed.
