FI and I are planning on doing our engagment photos midsummer and the “heat-wave” the midwest has gotten these past couple of days has me thinking about what I should wear!
Both of us are very outdoorsy so we’re thinking of doing ours outside near some body of water so we can include the vintage canoe my grandparents once owned and maybe a second shoot at dusk by a campfire. I was thinking maybe 2-3 outfits with at least one in casual clothes (nice top with nice shorts) and one in a dress though I’m not sure what style of dress yet. I want to strike a balance between comfy, pretty, and practical (in that I could get in and out of a canoe without looking like a total fool, haha)
What will/did you all wear for your summer engagement photos? Were you happy with your choices? I would love to see any photos you want to show off or are drawing inspiration from 🙂

Ours were taken at the very end of summer, and wore sunset colors. I didn’t really plan it that way, but I just thought the outfits looked good together and would go nicely with the green trees.

We had a couple outfits:
1. Alma mater shirts – both were white/grey/black. These didn’t look great with the summer colors of the trees and stuff
2. Me in an olive tank top and a cream cardigan and blue jeans, him in a navy button-up and blue jeans. I didn’t love the way the cream photographed, and I think the olive blended in too much with the trees/grass.
3. Me in a white lace sundress and him in khakis with a plaid brown shirt. This option definitely looked the best!!
If I were to plan it all over again, I’d definitely do more navy because it looked nice. But I think browns looked better than greens, and if I didn’t have really red hair, I’d try some yellow or pale pink!

I hope to do ours in a sundress or shorts with him in shorts and a polo!

Ours were in the summer. We had two outfits. Our super casual ones consisted of me in a cami, thin button up top, jeans, and sandals. He was in a tshirt, jeans, and sneakers. The slightly less casual (though admittedly still casual since that’s how we are) consisted of me in a skirt, tucked in tshirt, and the same sandals. DH was in a button up and the same jeans, though he changed into dressier shoes. We were comfortable and the heat wasn’t a bother!

I had such a hard time finding the right look for our summer engagement picture session.
I was able to get this black dress with sheer overlay at RW&CO and the jewelled belt at Le Chateau. I was so so happy how it looked in the pictures.
I picked up my better half’s blue shirt at RW&CO and he had the shorts already.
I had planned on wearing cute sandles but because we ended up hiking I wore runner and so did FI. I do think I look way more formal than him but what oh well.
Good luck! You will find something that will fit your vision.

Oh you all have such pretty pictures!
208bride: I’m jealous of your beautiful red hair! But I suppose being blonde does give me a bit more flexibility with color choice. The pink is a good idea.
Pinkmoon: I like those colors! I’ve thought about doing like a deep peachy orange and it definitely looks good in your photo against the leaves.
bowsergirl: Where were these taken? I love the second picture with the surrounding rocks and sunset in the back, beautiful!
Katrina117: Your second picture is very pretty. I like the not overly-formal but still dressy look. One of my favorite causal dresses that I already own is black, but I wasn’t sure if I wanted to use it in case it might look too plain. I like the idea of dressing it up with a fancy belt or something.
Keep it coming ladies, I’m loving all the pictures!

antique_acorn: There’s a really pretty mountain where I used to live. Our e-pics were in June, so it was around 105F during the day, but the mountain is usually about 10-15 degrees cooler. It has a variety of landscapes – from this really gorgeous rocky area (where the pics I posted were taken) along with typical pine forests.
