I think a wedding video is a good investment, just not super 8, or true super 8. The same look can be achieved in post-processing, but with sound -- hoorah!
I think most people really enjoy watching their videos, even low to no budget ones.
I think you absolutely without a doubt want a wedding videographer. That's something you don't want to regret a decade from now.
But the subject of your post asks for Super 8 recs??? Super 8 is much more expensive and without sound (and in my opinion) - is somewhere you can cut costs without anyone noticing.
Sooo....have a videographer: YES!!!!! have Super 8: not necessary.
I didn't see this post earlier, and 10 months later you might be married already! But I did hire Wes Jones and am so happy I did. We couldn't afford his packages either, so we agreed that he's shoot, and give us the footage unedited. We flew him to Burlington, VT and put him up as well. Now this was two weeks before the wedding and he didn't have another gig booked, so he was flexible. But it's always worth asking "do you have a special price that doesn't include editing?" Someday we'll edit it ourselves on iMovie, or pay someone else to do it, but you can't go back and get the footage. I didn't realize how important it was to me until I saw the footage -- of our smiles, the way we moved, the emotions etc.
Let us know what you decide.
As an update, I did book with Wes and I'm so so glad we did. We just received our finished videos and they look totally amazing - absolutely etheral and dreamy and just so gorgeous. I got a little jealous of some of the bees with those gorgeous effects in their photos (like our labor of love style pics) so the wedding video is completely satisfying my desire for something so utterly romantic and beautiful.
Ha, and I was totally bawling within the first five minutes.

So I'm debating on whether or not to hire a videographer (Wes Jones, who has filmed other bee's weddings). His work is great, but he is rather expensive, even at the least expensive package. My fiance is willing to pay for it if I want this, but I'm just not sure a wedding video is something he'll even appreciate.
For all of you married bees, do you love your videos? Or in retrospect would you rather have put that money towards something else?
