Why dont you locate a couple of dresses online that you like that you can order from stock and then when the time comes closer you know what will match. Then you can order the one you like and you can return it if you have to. This way you will feel more prepared.

I dont think replacing her is the best idea, she is your sister and if for some reason she can’t be there, then she can’t be there.

She will be sorry she missed it I am sure and you will be sorry she missed it, but replacing her isnt going to do anything other than fill in an empty space at the front of the ceremony.

Its not going to change the fact that she is your sister and you both love each other. And for the other BM responsibilities, she will still be able to through you a shower etc.

Try not to worry so much — there’s absolutely nothing you can do about the timing of her birth, and you’ll just make yourself crazy about it.

As for the dress… maybe your sister could get an infinity dress — she’d be able to make it work regardless of her size the day of the wedding! I was in a wedding where one of the bridesmaids was pregnant, and the infinity dress worked for all of us. We got ours from Dalina on Etsy.

First, don’t replace your SISTER in your wedding like she is an accessory. She is your bridesmaid because you love her and she is important, not because she looks pretty standing at the altar.

I think you are going to have to accept that you sister may either be in a totally different dress because she is super pregnant, or may not be there. Life happens sometimes and as much as it sucks, at this point you worrying and stressing over it will just stress you out, not solve anything. I know, easier said than done, but all you can do is relax and breath and deal with it closer to the actual date when you know better about her size.

@mimsmims7:  Well even more reason not to replace her. She is there to support you in your marriage.

You dont need somone to fill a hole just to fill a hole. If your sister or a new BM doesnt need to do much in terms or helping you, you should let your sister keep the honor.

I think it would really hurt my feelings if my sister were so stressed out about not having me in a matching dress or possibly having uneven bridal parties at this important time in my life. Honestly, get a dress with a lot of wiggle room (empire waist, maybe flexible fabric) and you will be fine. I had plenty of non maternity dresses I wore until the day I popped! Just take a deep breath, everything will be okay. How fun will it be later to show your niece or nephew these awesome professional pics of her/him in his mama’s belly while auntie got married? A year from now, this will not be a big deal, so try not to stress about it. This is a special time for both of you, so you should be enjoying it together, not stressing out about all that’s going on.

ETA: My sister bought a BM dress the week before my wedding because she had an infant and wasn’t sure if she’d have lost all her weight. You know what? I trusted her, and she ended up looking fabulous!

I am going to be 7.5 months pregnant in a wedding next week and we ordered my dress with the rest of the BMs and ordered extra fabric. I went last week for my first fitting and again Monday for the second. They are making me a completely new belly with the extra fabric. They do this all the time and reassured me this isn’t that big of a problem.

Would it work if she wore a black dress and just got a bolero or wrap in your colors? She can surely find a stretchy, sure to fit dress in black and a wrap, bolero and sash in your color. So she’ll match but not not be out a lot of money on a dress she may not get to wear that is hard to size when she is 9mos pregnant.

I’m sorry you are having such a tough time with your sister.  I hope things work out between you.  I’m sure she’ll need all the support she can get in the coming months.  For the dresses here are a few ideas.  If you post with a price range and style preferences the bees can probably help you find some more ideas.  I think we all love an excuse to look at pretty dresses.

This last one is alfred angelo, you can’t purchase online but there are a ton of bridal stores that can order it for you.  Also its shown in red, but their dresses are all available in tons of colors including black.

I can imagine how frustrating the whole situation is. I do think you’d grow to regret not including her, though. Then again, my sister was about to pop at my wedding, and I couldnt imagine wanting to kick her out of my wedding of any reason. I really like PPs suggestion of the infinity dress. They are beautiful, not technically “maternity” so maybe your sis would be happy about that!, and the fabrics can be very elegant and appropriate for more formal events.
