Aww that sucks! Is there any way you could look into getting a puppy from a shelter or a different breeder? Even if it means driving several hours, that could be worth it.

did you want a specific breed of dog? I’m just wondering why you went the breeder route. Is it more important you get a puppy from that particular litter or to get a dog before your SO is deployed?

If you haven’t put any money down yet, you could adopt a dog/puppy from a local shelter and bring it home right away, rather than waiting for the breeder.

Either way, good luck with your furbaby! 🙂

Maybe you can both go and visit the puppy before he deploys? You can’t take it home yet but maybe the breeder would be okay with a meet and greet? Have you seen the breeding facility first hand anyway?

@Payless:  So why not go the route of getting a rescue dog? You can pretty much get any breed of dog (purebred too) at any range of ages via rescues and shelters. That way you can do a good deed and have a dog in time.

I’m sorry 🙁 I’m interested in rare breeds, so just out curiosity, why kind of dog are you getting?

How about you adopt a dog from a shelter that needs a home? Breeders are not the most humane way to go.

@Payless:  Good teeth come from owner care. So any dog can have “good teeth” depending on what you put into it. Having a dog from a breeder doesn’t exclude you from that responsibility. Also, EVERY dog needs proper training regardless of where it comes from.

As I said you can get dogs of a variety of ages so a young dog is not out of the question.

Anyway I will get down from my soap box now. I just beg you to avoid breeders, especially those in the mid-west area as they are almost all guaranteed puppy mills.

@Payless:  What a GORGEOUS breed! I hope you can visit before taking her home–she’s BEAUTIFUL! And you can always mail him pictures!

Breeders just make me sad. Think about if they did that to humans? Maybe this is a good opportunity to make a differnt choice?
