  • Hair, makeup, nails/tanning?
  • Gifts for bridal party
  • DJ
  • Gifts for parents
  • Groom’s attire
  • Cake
  • Invitations/Postage
  • Guest Book
  • Thank Yous/Postage
  • Wedding bands
  • Officiant

Haruyou:  Eep. Yeah, I think you’re going to be **really** close…but most likely over depending on how much you spend on your dress and decor, especially. You’re already at $7k. How many people? Open bar? I ask because I only had 20 ppl at my wedding, half of which didn’t drink and the bar tab was still $500. DJs are usually around $700. Alterations can run into the several hundreds depending on what you need done. You’d be surprised how much you will need to spend on postage!!! And I ended up spending almost a grand on my accessories.

Not trying to freak you out or be Debbie Downer but I just calculated our grand total and it ended up being way more than I thought it would be.

I think that you can definitely do dress, decor and invites for under $3000 but you have to make a serious effort and stick to it.

The biggest spend left is probably your dress… you need to keep that WAY low (assuming that the venue already includes or you aren’t having open bar and same w the DJ/band)

I think that you can do it (since people do have whole weddings for $3000) but you need to be careful

Haruyou:  Can you have a friend or family member register online as a minister? It takes like no time, and then they can marry you! Heyo! No officiant to pay! I also knew a baker, so she made me my cake as a gift. There’s also always the option to “name your price” and post a want ad for services like the DJ on craigslist. You might have to wade through some weirdos and do some of your own research on them, but you might end up getting a great deal that way. I posted a want ad for my photographer and I got her for only $275!!

Oh, and check out dresses on Modcloth 🙂 I got my dress from there and everyone loved it! I kind of went for a vintage vibe, and lots of their clothes worked with our “theme”/venue.

Haruyou:  Just be careful about howfar away the people you hand-deliver to are. DH and I wanted to do that t save money and to see our friends, but we ended up driving to one house that was about 70 kilometers away and spending at least 10x on gas what we would have on postage!

Is 3500 bucks typical for photographers in your area? That is REALLY high imo and eating up a ton of your budget. Usually it’s venue and food that takes up like 50% just by itself.

You can do it for under 10K by shopping sales, doing DIY projects, etc..

Haruyou:  Bummer… I was thinking you could shave that down for sure but obviously that’s just the going rate.

I know personally, I shopped for Bm gifts over a period of time so they actually came out of my regular spending money which allowed for more wedding budget money for strictly wedding items. DIY invitations will be a huge cost cutter. And not doing flowers, OR doing DIY flowers from a farmersmarket
