Aww, yay! You guys are so cute and the ring is beautiful! I'm glad it was a surprise, my FI tried to make it a surprise but... I think I know him too well for anything to surprise me. ;)

Congrats!! BTW, we've been batting around the idea of French/Italian Riviera for our first anniversary (yes, we're already planning it before we've even gotten married, haha), and after seeing your landscape photo I just emailed FI to tell him YES I'm sold on France!!!

I LOVE Provence! That's so romatic. I spent some time in Bonneiux and Lacoste a couple years ago. Your pictures aren't showing up, but I'm sure it was amazing! Congratulations!

Hello girls,
I am relatively new to these boards but as an American (Chicago) living in London, it's been so fun to read everyone's stories back home and hear about their proposals and wedding planning. You have inspired me to share mine!
My fiance and I live in London together and have been dating a little over a year. We had just returned from a fabulous 3 week trip back to the US (for him to meet the rest of my family and friends, and to attend a friend's wedding in Malibu). It was a magical trip, but given that we had just stayed in some of the most romantic places in the country (Napa Valley, Big Sur, etc. ) it's safe to say that since it didn't happen during any of that, I definitely wasn't expecting anything until well into 2010.
The weekend after we returned to London, he told me he had to go on a work trip for the weekend to Jersey (one of the Channel Islands just off the coast of England) and asked me to go with him. I agreed and it wasn't until I had literally boarded the flight (at 6:30 AM I am not too coherent) that I suspected something was happening when they announced we were bound for Marseilles, France!!
We spent the next 3 days in the gorgeous countryside of Provence. Knowing I love to ride, the following day he surprised me with an afternoon horseback ride, and after a picnic lunch in the middle of the countryside, he got down on one knee and proposed. My eyes filled with tears and it was an instant YES! After a shower and long nap (I was exhausted!!) we celebrated later that evening with dinner and champagne in a beautiful hillside village.
