- Wedding: August 2011
H and I have been engaged now for over 2 years. When we first got engaged, we went ring shopping and tried on engagement rings, but I eventually told him that I did not want one because I felt guilty about so much money being spent on ONE thing just for me, and I didn’t know how often I’d care to wear it, etc. etc.. Instead, I told him I’d be happy to just wear a nice wedding band when we were married. When out in public I would usually just wear a nice stand-in ring so nobody would think I was single, but just as often, I would not wear it and never at home, so I really thought I didn’t care about an engagement ring at all.
Well, last Saturday he and I flew to Texas together- he was on a work trip and I tagged along to spend some time at the pool at the resort and visit with some friends in Texas. Saturday night we met friends at my FAVORITE Texas restaurant (Chuy’s, if any of you Bees are Texans) and then went back to our room at the resort. I was lying on the bed because I’d had two giant margaritas and was sleepy and FH told me to close my eyes, which creeped me out because I hate surprises, but I did and when I opened them I found this:
He COMPLETELY surprised me with this ring. I kept saying, “What is this? What is this??” and he kept telling me, “It’s your RING!” Apparently, he decided I needed one after all, so he worked with his mother’s jeweler to find a perfect loose stone, and then chose a setting for it that he thought I would like. It was only just ready to go before we left for Texas, so it hasn’t been sized for my hands yet, but he said he wanted to give it to me in Texas rather than wait for it to be sized and give it to me at home because I love Texas so much. Awwwww.
I honestly had no idea how much I would LOVE an engagement ring until he gave this one to me. Now I think I’m crazy for insisting all this time I didn’t need one. I LOVE IT!
It’s just the prettiest thing and I was so touched and surprised that he got me this ring when I had told him all along I did not want one. I’m glad he ignored me for once. 😉
