So, I was starting to get a large amount of finger fat right in front of my wedding ring and noticed that I’m having a super hard time taking my ring off. I am one of those who almost never takes off my ring, but I just put it on my necklace because I’m scared if I don’t take it off, someone will have to cut it off me. I’m 26w tomorrow. Is this normal? Will my fingers return to pre-pregnancy size after the birth? Darling Husband said we can go get something at Kohl’s that I can wear until the baby comes, but I’m so bummed about taoff off my beautiful rings!!

I’m pretty sure they will return to regular size after baby but seeing as this is my first I’m not 100% sure. I’ve been having the same problems though and I’m 28 weeks. I’ve been taking them off at night (when I typically wouldn’t) because I find my fingers swell more at night, probably because i’m warm and cozy in bed. I’ve been keeping a close eye on it because i don’t want to have them cut off either and I think i’m going to have to retire them soon 🙁 I’m just trying to hold off until after my SIL’s wedding next weekend then I’ll be ok putting them away for the next 2 or 3 months….Fingers crossed they fit for another week and half!

@totheislnds – thanks, that makes me feel so much better (although I hate that you’re experiencing it too). We’ve only been married a little over 6 months (we got pregnant ridiculously fast) so I’m still loving looking down and seeing my rings. Bums me out to have to take them off.

@BabyEtobe: Congratulations on your wedding and your new baby!! what a year it’s been for you! I’ve been married a year and half and I still love looking down at my rings. I’m super sad that I have to take them off too but its only for a short time and I’d rather keep them safe then have to have them cut off and reset!

I think I took mine off around then, actually I think it was sooner, it was the summer so my swelling was worse. Also, my engagement ring was a little tight with my wedding band on, even before I was pregnant. I miss my rings so much and can’t wait to start wearing them again! I bought a cheap wedding band from target for the time being.

I had to take mine off around 30-32 weeks because of swelling and wore it on a chain around my neck. I was able to put it back on around 3-4 weeks post-partum (albeit snugly) but by like 6 weeks pp it was fitting perfectly again.

When I was pregnant a few years ago I actually had to go to the ER and get a ring cut off my finger. If you notice swelling now, I think it’s smart to take your rings off for a while. They will go back to normal, I remember mine were back to normal size by Christmas that year (I had my son on November 2), because my grandmother surprised me by having my ring soldered back together and gave it to me as a Christmas present.

@BabyEtobe: While mine haven’t swelled yet (I’m 23 w) I’m expecting it to happen soon, and I totally feel your pain. We got pregnant 3 months BEFORE the wedding (we never thought it would happen so fast in my 30’s!), so we’ve only been married for 2 and a half months! It would kill me to take these rings off already!!!

@BabyEtobe: You’re definitely not alone in this regard! My rings are starting to get tighter as well (I’ll be 26 weeks on Saturday). I think I can still get away with my engagement ring but the band is a tiny bit smaller and will probably have to go within a week or two. I’ll probably do what you and other bees have done and put my rings on a chain around my neck once I swell too much.

I quit wearing mine around 20 weeks. I went out and bought a $12.00 ring that is big and gaudy. Nothing like I’d normally wear so that’s why I went for something different just to be different for a few months. I did put my rings on for my shower but had a hard time taking them off. So I’m glad I haven’t been wearing them. I’m 35 weeks now.

I took mine off a about 16 weeks. Some days they were fine and others they were just way too tight. I thought I’d be self conscious and would want to go and buy a cheap ring but in the end I didn’t really seem to care. Also, I might not recommend putting it on a necklace just because of the chance that the necklace could break and you could loose your gorgeous rings. Verdict is still out on if my hands go back to normal, fingers crossed that they do.
