I think it is a way to advertise for Pina Tornai's plus size line. Which the girl still could not fit into. When they have a fully tailored mermaid for a size 24w girl on the show then I might believe it. I felt bad for the girl when the dress ripped. The stupid lady shouldn't have tried to convince her to try the sample on. Big Bliss is a pretty stupid name too. They could have had them in the regular episodes. I'll probably still watch it to see what a really expensive dress looks like on a full figured girl.
oh yeah! i did see the plus size Pninas!
i'm not really impressed with her crazy-looking dresses. wasn't it the girl who wanted to look "trashy" that was all into Pnina?
The name didn't really offend me...I just saw it as a marketing ploy. As far as the dresses...a plus-sized tag inside of the dress does not a plus size make. The bridal industry really needs to start selling dresses that are more in line with street sizes. David's Bridal and Alfred Angelo are the only two shops where my dress size matched the size of my every day clothing.
I am hoping that they show all of the sizes that fall in the "plus-size" (12+) range as well as a wider range of body types.
@andy113: I have to agree with you. Also I honestly don't know why they had to single it out and make it a big bliss series. For me everyone is a beautiful bride, regardless of size and it should be a collective mix. What I will say it is far better than the Atlanta series. That one I stopped watching bc seriously, the brides, their mothers and the owners did nothing but get on my nerves. So obnoxious.
@MissGreen: yes! i thought the atlanta one was terrible also. the consultants got all huffy when the bride didn't want to buy the first dress they kind of liked. and they were very non-accomodating to another larger than a sample size. at least at kleinfeld, they seem empathetic about it....
i don't car for the title Big Bliss either. Why did they include the dress ripping??? I think she was mortified enough as it was, lets put that on national TV. I agree with other posters they should not single out plus size, it should all be incorporated into one show. Why did all the consultants seem like they felt sorry for the girls, instead of feeling sorry for them treat them like any other bride and have dresses they can try on!
It's funny--I was reading "Marie Claire" and watching SYTTD: BB (it was one of those girly nights!) and there's a girl who writes a column in MC about being a plus-sized fashionista and she's just delightful and to me, a breath of fresh air as an authentic voice, as compared to a lot of the stuff I saw on SYTTD: BB--in particular, I dislike the whole if you're big, apparently you are either completely ashamed of your body OR you're big, bold, and brassy.
I do not like Pnina gowns. I know they are purposely over the top, but see through and very low cut? Yeah, not my thing.
As for the plus size brides, it's nice to see that women can actually have a nice time trying on bridal gowns, but it also sucks that designers make their samples a size 6.
Yeah, I agree that the name is lame and they shouldn't make a separate "Say Yes" for full-figured women. I feel like from just watching two episodes that the stories are all gonna be the same.
I feel like it's really TLC's fault. They are terrible at creating new show ideas. They have like 4 little people shows, 4 multiples shows, 3 "say yes" shows... They just need more original ideas...
To be fair about bridal dress sizing, they use "true" sizes, go to JoAnnes and pick up a pattern and you will see it uses "true" sizes . Street clothes use a different sizing system to make women feel better about themselves (a size 10 now would have been say a size 6 a ways back).
The focus that is put on body issues on this show really turns me off. Like, it comes up sometimes on the regular SYTTD, but not like on this one (it's like trigger central, I can't watch it anymore!).
I was also so turned off by the Pnina plus-size line. Just because you can make the dress in bigger sizes doesn't mean that it is a plus-size line---it should also be about making dresses that are flattering on women with curves. A tight fitted mermaid dress might not be as flattering as another style, so why were all of her dresses like that?
Right! And a plus size girl with a DDD bra, is going to be all boobs in a Pnina gown! Just like that one woman. Her boobs were touching her chin!
I don't know. I feel like TLC should be mixing these stories in with the originial show. We don't need to see skinny brides every episode with one plus size girl every third episode. It should be mixed equally.

so i just wached the first two episodes of "say yes to the dress: big bliss" and i'm not sure how i feel. have anyone seen it? what do you think?
i just feel like they are TOTALLY stereotyping all plus size brides (they all have body image issues except the rare one who is proud of her curves, they are all emotionally scarred from trying on dresses at other stores). they say they have the most extensive collection of plus size dresses, but then it seems like most of the dresses they tried on the girls in these two episodes were......umm...kinda dumpy looking. or stereotypically - tons of ruching. but basically you can get nearly any dress is most sizes (they don't say anything about that).
it would be helpful if they talked about the ridiculousness of bridal sizing (i'm street size 12 but had to order an 18 - then they wanted to upcharge 30% for "plus sizing"). i think it is a nice concept - i think i only visited 1 salon (Vera) where i could zip of the sample sizes - so i understand what they're talking about. i'm just not sure about the way they are doing it.
i also reacted to the title"big bliss."
what do you think? what was your reaction?
