I was 43 on my wedding day!  Getting married isn’t about being a young ingenue.  It’s about making a commitment and celebrating that commitment!  You can do that at any age.  Because it was an encore marriage for me and my hubby, I elected for a tea length, less bridal looking dress, but we said vows in a church and celebrated with our family.  And if you want a long dress, go for it!  Here’s me and my groom, celebrating our day!

PS, DH’s good friend from college just got married.  He’s 40ish.  His bride (also close to 40) wore a big satin strapless ball gown.  They had a traditonal reception with a DJ and dinner and dancing.  It was perfectly fine and DH and I had a great time celebrating with them!

HannahGrace:  I was 40-something when I got married, too. It was my mom that thought I was nuts for having a wedding because it’s not my first time around, but I said “eff it I’m doing it”. It was a small affair and yes I did wear a long, white dress. Not too floofy or anything. But I just feel that people should do what they want when they want for their weddings! Ya wanna get married in scuba gear in the ocean? Go for it! You want 400 people at the Top of the Mark in SF? Do it! I don’t think you’re silly at all. Not.at.all.

HannahGrace:  I was a mess in the weeks leading up to my wedding, just because I felt like there was so much to do.  I was really worried for nothing.  It all went just fine!

I think a long dress is perfect.  I picked a short one because our wedding wasn’t very formal, and I like sort of 1950s looking dresses.  I think a long dress will be perfect for you!  Don’t let your age worry you!

PS, my husband is 8 years younger than me!

Mrs.Sawyertobe:  Couldn’t agree more!  That sterotype can be discouraging.  I’m a little youner, but not 25 anymore (I’m 31) and have questioned some of the things I did or wanted b/c it seemed “juvenile”.

HannahGrace:  43 IS young!  And quite honestly, it’s not about the wedding, it’s about the marriage.  That’s where I try and place focus when things stress me out or I second guess something.  I find myself freaking out about how one of vases for our centerpieces only has a design on one side of the jar and “the person on the other side will have nothing to look at!!”; then I think of the look on my fiance’s face when he’ll see me coming down the aisle for the first time and it all goes away.  The centerpieces, the judgement, the aesthetics, the details that don’t matter…vanish

HannahGrace:  PS- I DID order a dress from Modcloth and ended up going to David’s Bridal 8 days before the wedding because the Modcloth dress didn’t feel bridal enough and seemed too young on me. Lol!!

HannahGrace:  Honey, I wanted to elope.  My hubby insisted on the wedding because we have 3 kids between us, and he felt strongly they should be part of the wedding.  Honestly, having a small wedding turned our to be a great decision!  It really was a wonderful, happy day, full of love!  Yours will be too.

RedHeadKel:  Thanks.  I really liked it!

There is no age limit for being united in marriage to the man you are in love with. Rock 43 with pride, wear WHATEVER you want! There are no age requirements for wearing what makes you feel beautiful on a very important day of your life. Just own it!
